She was dropped at the non categorised climb with 60km to go. Even if she could reconnect, it was going to happen again in the two remaining climbs.

Lippert stops pulling, but she may already have done the damage. Van Vleuten should have been right on Vollering's wheel though...

Edit: nope, Movistar are fine.

Norsgaard was never beating Vos in the sprint though. This was their best shot of getting more than second out of the day
I know, but getting bonus seconds in play for the GC was a bigger gamble IMO, although AVV wasn't far from getting some herself in the end.

I absolutely love Liane Lippert this year. She's always been a great and talented puncheuse who continues to improve as she heads toward peak years (she's still only 25), but this season she's gone full Movistar, and added hyper-aggressive and tactically questionable racing to her repertoire.

She needs to do something about that climbing style though. She must expend a lot of energy bobbing her head around so rapidly like that.

I hope she does not turn into a latter day Niewiadoma - Animating the race at times, being the strongest BUT not winning.

anyone believing the Canyon Sram line that Elise Chabbeys plan wasnt to go for QOM points they just happened to be on offer, when she always seems to end up in the QOM jersey ?

as for Kool I suspect it was always the plan to cap it on this stage, and she wasnt in contention today, so why bother riding to the end, btw she called her stage win a Grand Tour stage win ;)

The riders are on the bottom slopes of Puerto de Navafría now. 75 km remain from the top of it, so I doubt there'll be a lot of action on the climb. We won't get to see any of it anyway.

Sara Poidevin (EF Education-Tibco-SVB), Quinty Ton (Liv Racing – TeqFind), Simone Boilard (St Michel – Mavic – Auber93), Isabel Martin (Eneicat – CM Team), Adele Normand (Massi – Tactic) and Susana Perez (Cantabria Deporte-Rio Miera) are part of the current breakaway, but it's about get brought back already

The climb to Mirador de Peñas Llanas is neither the longest nor the steepest in the world, but the best riders will still be able to make a difference here. Vollering vs. Van Veluten is obviously the most interesting battle in the race, but other riders have shot at a podium, too, and they have to avoid getting dropped today.

Exciting things are actually hapening, despite my earlier prediction. FDJ-SUEZ have cut the peloton down to around 20 riders.

Vos and Deignan have unsurprinsingly been dropped, but it's a bit of shocker that Lippert has been as well.

I hope she does not turn into a latter day Niewiadoma - Animating the race at times, being the strongest BUT not winning.

She has a better sprint though and when she's not working for van Vleuten anymore she will lose a tactical option, but gain more freedom. Hopefully Movistar gets a support rider or second option then. I think she's worth it, although that may be national bias.
