In the end... I doubt anything will come of this.

I don't necessarily think Landis is lying... but he's got credibility issues. This reminds me a lot of Jose Conseco writing his books about steroid use in baseball.

In the end, much of what he said turned out to be accurate. But his credibility was so bad that nobody could really enact any kind of investigation based on his statements with no documentation or evidence to back what he said.

Same situation here... a disgruntled athelete who has largely been blackballed by his sport throwing names around with no evidence. Regardless of how accurate the statements are... there's nothing there to actually warrant investigation that wasn't there already.

I was searching my measly little brain for an apt comparison to make my point (that despite any evidence, this will probably dent but not destroy anyone). Canseco is that perfect comparison! The only difference is that Landis has even less credibility and will be eaten alive even faster.

Why would anyone have believed Lim if the first place? Are we all credulous?

Any coach who has the SRM data files, watts and HR, etc., going back years and who is buried in the details and the small fluctuations in the stuff daily and doesn't see odd/unexplainable changes in performance metrics must be an idiot. And Lim is no idiot. I've never believed Lim. Why would you guys?

Either he's a great coach and knew (which I think is the case on both counts) or he's a dumb coach and didn't know because he was so dumb he couldn't spot a flying barn if he tried (and I don't think this is the case).

Again, Lim is smart and the public relations folks here are playing dumb.

Time has proven Conseco to be correct.

If you think this is going away you are dreaming. The Feds are involved, you don't lie to the Feds. They have other witness besides Landis. Your boy is cooked, time to catch up with reality.

Any thoughts as to why Landis is largely naming American cyclists and mostly skimming over his foreign connections? It seems to me that this threatens tour bids for the guys he is naming.

Hincapie's doping has to be the least surprising revelation next to Lance's PED use.

Yes, I'll never forget his profile in Cycle Sport (or Procycling?) in which he put his drop in form down to "a build-up of parasites" which was then cured by traditional Chinese medicine. Please!

There is no way Vaughters will throw Zabriskie to the lions. No way, no how. Even if he wasn't currently leading Cali he wouldn't do it. Vaughters is fiercely protective of his riders.

wada statement

“WADA is aware of the serious allegations made by Mr Landis. We are very interested in learning more about this matter and we will liaise with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and any other authorities with appropriate jurisdiction to get to the heart of the issues raised. WADA looks forward to these further investigations and enquiries by those responsible.

“Generally speaking, WADA encourages everyone with knowledge of banned practices in sport, including athletes who were caught cheating and who denied the evidence for years, to be forthcoming in disclosing the information they may have to the proper authorities. This will further contribute to clean sport and strengthen existing anti-doping programs for the good of clean athletes worldwide.”

I'd bet he's not, it's just those are the names the press has picked out initially. There'll be more in the detail. And maybe also that he probably associated more with US riders on the squad than the others.

Vande Velde was not mentioned. USPS and Liberty Seguros with Saiz.

Can't remember, VdV and Landis were teamates at USPS during some of this time too, right?

If JV has to throw DZ under the bus then I wonder about VdV.

In a way I feel sorry for them.

I was a blind fan once too. And it was fun. You could really shout and scream at the TV, or at the riders from the roadside.

Having your illusions shattered is not fun. These people are going to be depressed.

Because the US media/public couldn't care less about some europeans compared to their domestic idols?

For example, he mentioned the team made blood transfusions in front of one another, and made a point regarding only 3 of his teammates being American. I suppose one could say the letter was directed at the head of American cycling. But if he wants people to believe it is widespread, he better get out there and hang them all.

Well, if he wants to take part in cleaning cycling up, he has to put forth a case against the more relevant audience.

Because the letter was addressed to USA Cycling head Steve Johnson and it's topic was doping by American teams and riders. As expected Johnson ignored it.

wonder why?

Becuase he sent the mails to the US authorities, who only have jurisdiction over riders with US licenses?
