I mean on a 127 km unipuerto stage, it's not really a huge surprise these days, but it was obviously still a mighty impressive ride.

Beating the old record is not surprising. I mean - no fatigue before climb and the tyres today are so much more efficient on gravel than even 5, never mind 10, 15 years ago.

But "it's not about the bike" bc how the hell does he put 4 min + on ALL the other guys????

Maybe but given his background he has every right to be here, even tho he's a WT rider for a few months now. Will he be a real GC contender in the future? No maybe not, but let's not compare him to fricking Foss. Blackmore is 10 times more talented than that fraud.

Why do you think Foss is a fraud? He was just the best at L'avenir that year against very mediocre competition. No one from the GC guys in that year did anything later. Just a weak crop.

His worlds result was surprising but with very narrow margin on a course that suited him - and jumbo visma had clearly the best set up 2020-2022.

I don't subscribe to the idea that bikes today are much faster uphill than 10-15 years ago at all. Bikes today are heavier, so I still think its an absolutely insane performance beating ALL of these riders.

I refuse since Im so down on him being on UAE instead of Movistar. This was the man... instead he joins Ayuso, Del Toro, Yates, Almeida and Pog. Great stuff!!
