I would love to hear Andy Hampsten's take on the matter. I am all for rider safety. but the conditions didn't seem to come close what rider's faced in the past. Granted, I am looking at a tv screen from my couch, so my perception could be way off.

That's the crazy part. At the point they when the message of neutralisation came, it was fine.
Later the road was literally covered in mud.

riders would have died today. There was fast flowing mud and water over the road

Are people just not getting the MUDSLIDE part? Come on now. There's no way to solve this is a way that satisfies everyone.

Ok... I have the information... they tried to clean the road in order to have the full stage, they waited too long because they wanted to finish the stage the way it was designed.

A late call
Sounds like a lame cop out. In that situation, why not at least tell the riders that there is a good chance that Iseran may end up being the stage finish, so they can race it accordingly. From their reactions, it seems pretty sure that this wasn't the case.

I totally agree... if the information is that important, the riders should know about it

General conclusion:

- neutralization of the stage concerning riders' health & safety: perfect decision
- choosing a time and place earlier in a race as finish and/or time recording: feels incredibly wrong
I thought the same thing....for the leaders.... However.....Thinking about the stragglers...avoid big accidents.

This really sucks but honestly, I don't think this is going to have much effect on the final podium. Going to be Bernal, Thomas, and Kruijswijk

I'm not convinced Bernal would have kept his lead up the final climb. He's won the lottery today.
He's by far the best climber in the race. He'll get more time tomorrow. Ultimately this affects the KOM jersey more, imo.

Re: Le Tour '19 stage 19: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Tignes 1

Alaphilippe still with a shot at the podium. Still, what, 20 or 30 seconds ahead of Thomas and Kruijswijk? Depends on how defensive Ineos rides tomorrow.

Is this clown Prudhomme finally gonna get fired for being a disgrace to cycling now? How many more farces need to happen before he finally has to take his hat?

Certainly he could've found out the road is unpassable 15 minutes earlier and communicate it in time!
I’m sure you would’ve managed better, brains.
Zomegnan got fired for a similar situation regarding Monte Crostis! Additionally this isn't the first incident caused by Prudhomme's ineptitude. He arguably has ruined the whole Tour de France during his regency, compared to the days of LeBlanc! This isn't even up for discussion IMHO. Prudhomme finally has to leave for what he has made out of your beloved race, a legendary part of French culture!

Completely unrideable. And more landslides were a fear. No choice. You don't want to kill someone out there.

Stage winner time bonuses were for the first riders to reach Tignes. No one reached Tignes. Give them the Iseran bonuses only.

Or cancel the Iseran ones and use the finish line bonus seconds - might be fairer, since it is in fact the finish.

I'd agree if the riders were aware that the summit was the stage finish at the time they were climbing. The information that the riders had was that there was still a mountain to go after l'Iseran. They presumably raced accordingly.

Complicated outcome, but maybe they should half the time gaps.

In Formula 1 if a race doesn't reach it's conclusion but has completed a significant percentage of it, teams are awarded half of the points on offer.

So half everyone's total time over the l'Iseran?

It'll never happen, but seems a sensible compromise.

Part of the road looking like a river, mudslides across the road, they had to stop.

Thanks for the clarification. I was watching the stage at a coffee shop which had the commentary on mute.
