Another bad day for Van Eetvelt. Maybe he's sick :(

He can't breath when he's doing an effort. Out of breath immediately. His legs are good, off the bike he feels completely fine, but when it goes hard his lungs don't want to follow. You would think, ok this guy has covid but his test this morning was negative. I expect it to be positive tomorrow tho. He doesn't want to quit ("I didn't try to finish for no reason today") but if he's positive or gets more symptoms the team will definitely take him out.

thanks for that Samamba. It might be a different respiratory problem than Corona. He has a lot of fight in him.

His legs are fine but his lungs aren't. If he doesn't have Covid, maybe he can merge with Uijtdebroeks, who's lungs are fine but his legs aren't.

I wish him a quick and full recovery. It was really exciting that he was racing in this Vuelta. He looked super strong the first few stages. For me at least he gave this Vuelta some flavour, but without him most of my interest has dissipated. Now most of my favourite riders are absent. But anyway, the 2025 Tour and other upcoming GTs will be a lot of fun to watch with a healthy Van Eetvelt. I wonder if he's team will start hunting for some good domestiques to help him out.

Good performance back from illness from Lenny VE - despite stomach problems at Lombardia

I am happy to have reached the finish line. As I said at the start today I did not have my best condition. At the beginning of the race I had a bit of nausea and some trouble eating and as a result I ate little. After 3-4 hours of riding I was fine, but after 5-6 hours I felt the difficulties. I thought about keeping my pace uphill and then seeing what would happen, but when Tadej attacked I could only try to follow Remco, for myself but also for people at home to show off.

But in the end you managed to hold up despite the difficulties you told us about
Yes, honestly I was surprised, I was scared from the last climb since I had very strong cramps in my legs. I am happy with my result.

Winning as a favorite in WT race as favorite is a next step as well.

Winning on the MTF is one thing, if you're the best and you have a decent team there that can control most of it it's somewhat "easy", but today was harder. Team made a small mistake letting a strong early break go meaning they had to bury themselves early. As a result they didn't have a lot of riders left in the end, but Lennert was strong enough, both leg wise as tactically to control it on his own till Moniquet came back. Was very important, cause the few kilometers after the last climb were probably the most dangerous ones this Tour.

Anyways, 2 WT stage races in 1 year, it's something special. Of course it's "only" UAE and Guangxi, definitely the last one is obviously a lower level WT race, but still. Hopefully he can stay fit next year so he can make the next step, maybe podium a higher ranked WT race like Catalunya, Romandie (this one should definitely be possible imo) or Switzerland. I want to see what he can do on the longer mountains, he couldn't really show it this year due to bad luck. And of course a new shot at a GT (Vuelta again I would say if the rumors about Tour parcours are correct) but I think his first goal should be those stacked 1 week stage races. I also think those are the type of races where you don't really need the strongest team, which well he won't have next season tbh (hopefully the rumors about 2026 sponsors are correct and they can strengthen their support/midfield around Lennert then).
