Raymond Kreder is doing well. He really should go to the Garmin pro team next year. He was already good last year

Volta a Albufeira, Portugal:

In the final stage the sprinters were rather surprised by the late work of the Onda-Boavista team which denied them; Samuel Caldeira (Tavira-Prio) needed to get the bonus seconds for the stage win to take the GC off breakaway specialist Sérgio Sousa (Barbot-Efapel), but could only manage 7th on the day. He will have to content himself with the points and metas volantes classification wins.

Well done jelly belly. I heard it was going to be a sprint with the likes of Bos and Steegmans fighting it out so a bit surprised.

Its a 1.1 race btw, so bigish.

Thor Hushovd snags up his first victory of the season at Ronde d'Aix:

1. Thor Hushovd
2. Yauheni Hutarovich
3. Philippe Gilbert

Only one day after a disappointing Milan - San Remo, Thor Hushovd saved Garmin-Cervélo's weekend by getting his first victory of the season, competing in the Ronde d'Aix alongside team mate David Millar. Other noteworthy participants included: Romain Feillu, Philippe Gilbert and Jussi Veikanen, Rinaldo Nocentini, Rémi Pauriol and Yauheni Hutarovich, Rémy DiGregorio, Geoffroy Lequatre and Yaroslav Popovych, Leonardo Duque and Julien El Fares, Laurent Mangel, Julien Antomarchi.

Especially Rémy DiGregorio (who was awarded the most combattive rider award) and David Millar were very active during the race. Philippe Gilbert put in a powerful attack with roughly 2 km to go, but was brought back by the chase group which included Hushovd, Pauriol and Hutarovich. Hushovd was the first to start his sprint and could hold off Hutarovich to the line.

The race was up and down the same street (Avenue des Belges), with a large roundabout on each end. This made it really easy to watch the race, and not miss any of the action. I know these races are decided from the beginning, but this one seemed pretty real ... if it was all staged, then chapeau because the riders put in a good show!

GP Crédito Agricola (GP Costa Azul), 2.2, Portugal:

STAGE 1: Quinta do Conde - Setúbal (152,3km)
1 168 Jon ABERASTURI JSub23 (ORB) – Orbea 3:29:30
2 136 Alexey TSATEVICH JSub23 (TIK) – Itera/Katusha 3:29:30 m.t.
3 22 Hugo SABIDO Elite (LAR) – LA/Antarte 3:29:30 m.t.
4 36 Sérgio SOUSA Elite (BSP) – Barbot/Efapel 3:29:30 m.t.
5 141 Javier BENITEZ Elite (TKT) – KTM/Murcia 3:29:30 m.t.
6 82 José GONÇALVES JSub23 (LIB) – Liberty Seguros/Sta. Maria Feira 3:29:30 m.t.
7 38 Santiago PEREZ Elite (BSP) – Barbot/Efapel 3:29:30 m.t.
8 21 Hernâni BRÔCO Elite (LAR) – LA/Antarte 3:29:30 m.t.
9 41 Bruno SARAIVA Elite (LOU) – Louletano/Loulé Concelho 3:29:30 m.t.
10 81 Domingos GONÇALVES JSub23 (LIB) – Liberty Seguros/Sta. Maria Feira 3:29:30 m.t.

The race has been toughened up this year to try to break things up more; last year Samuel Caldeira, the Palmeiras Resort sprinter, took the overall. This year he was unable to stick the pace on some of the trickier climbs thrown in, and the slight uphill drag to the finish led to a rather odd-looking top 10 as you can see, with Santí Pérez and Hernâni Broco somehow making the top 10 in a sprint selection.

More good results for the Liberty Seguros youngsters though... and Euskaltel and Katyusha's feeder teams will be happy with a good result here too.

Filipe Cardoso took the final stage and the overall of the GP Costa Azul, winning from a reduced group. He had his Barbot-Efapel team do a lot of work on the front, which enabled him to pick up key seconds at intermediate sprints, and with the stage win he was able to wrap up the overall victory. He sprinted to the line ahead of Samuel Caldeira and Javier Benítez.

1º Filipe Cardoso (Barbot-Efapel), 3h39m06s
