Drôme Classic (25/02)
dc_profil_2018.jpg

5 WT teams are participating this year: AG2R La Mondiale, FDJ, Astana, Quick-Step Floors, Trek-Segafredo.

Big names: Bardet, Vuillermoz, Gaudu, Vichot, Guerreiro, Jungels, Chernetski, Calmejane, Hivert, Barguil, Cunego, Eiking, Martin, etc.

That race in Turkey is a freaking mess, no words. Wilson Peña was the sole leader and was about to pass the only climb (1st cat) of the day for the KOM points and possible stage victory, but punctured 1k from the top. He had to wait so long for a new wheel that by the time he got it, he was the last man in the race, in front of the broom-wagon and couldn't even make the finish.

I didn't know he was leading the race. In that case, I have to wonder, where was his team car?
I don't think it's fair to judge the race based on 1 incident.

Really impress with Quick-Step neo-pro Schachmann and Narvaez finished 2nd and 6th as well.

I thought 'neo-pro' referred to a rider's first pro contract, as opposed to their first year as a pro, and since a neo-pro contract must always be at least two years.

It doesn't.

For the UCI it does.

I'm with you, for me a neo-pro is someone in his first pro (WT or PC level) year. For the UCI, it's someone within his first pro contract (which normally is two years).

Neo pro contracts are a minimum of 2 years to avoid teams exploiting youngsters like they used to

I take it you've just watched Drome?
Indeed.

Calmejane won ahead of Quick-Step duo Narvaez and Jungels. The latter was the strongest of them all but decided to work for his promising teammate. Didn't work.

Yeah. I thought the same. Jungels buried himself ... I couldn't really understand why. He should have won that.
In the post-race interview, Jungels said that he thought Narvaez was better than him.

He rode Calmejane off his wheel at the summit of the penultimate climb

Narvaez was hanging on by a thread about 6 km out. Oh well, hopefully Jungels learns from this. He gave Calmejane a nice tow.

Respect for those riders racing Le Samyn today. Riding with temperatures below freezing is terrible. There's also a decent wind which makes it feel even worse.

Quick Step tactics need some explaination.

Well,
They have their entire team in the break today. 7out of 10riders.
They've just caught the early breakaway. so theres 7out of 17 riders now.

Oh, Jakobsen had a flat tyre it seems

I say this as a huge QS fan but this will only make their failure that much worse.

Wow, Gilbert was back in the front group a bit too quick to my taste. I know he wasn't at any fault himself, but still there must have been quite some pedal to the metal in the team car(s).
