Amazing. Getting same time as the winners' group on a medium mountain stage with a descent finish despite finishing dozens of minutes down and passed by 20 groups. Maybe some sort of special stage winner's team benefit?

no, it's just what the rules are like, and have always been. The 3k rule is applied on every (non timetrial-) stage which doesn't finish with a climb.

They've just pointed out UK Eurosport that he looks likely to exactly replicate his results from this race two years ago;

97th
2nd
1st
Yeah, already followed his results because I have him in the CQ game and after the first stage I already thought that he will not go for GC here. Normally you don´t finish second last in the first stage, when you have GC ambitions in a race..

Same here. though he's been so anonymous this season, had almost forgotten he was on my team. Would be nice to see him go for the KOM again at The Vuelta, but that could be a tough one to win with this GC lineup?

Yes, he will switch teams at the end of the season, so this could of course also have an impact on his schedule and his ambitions at the end of the season. Otherwise the vuelta would be the obvious goal and then he has to decide between stage hunting (incl. montain jersey) or GC ambitions. With this field a top 10 would still be the best he can hope for GC wise..

Stage haunting sounds a little scary ;)

Given the field, didn't even think about him going for GC as he's never shown that he can hold form. Doubt whether GFC are that concerned about a top ten or twenty here either? Hope he goes for KOM and maybe picks up a stage. This is a much better startlist than 2021 though.

and no issues with drafting there. The tv moto was always at least 100m away from the action ;)
It can n't be easy though trying to film a race with your iPhone on the back of a bike - or so it seemed by the TV coverage. De Lie anyhow was a clear winner by over a bike's length. It's onto tomorrow's Tour of Leuven ( https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/gp-jef-scherens) and see if he can get another 125 UCI points.
