One of the favourites for the race with by far the best team for the flat should really be at the front with 4.5km to go, the crash was about halfway down the bunch wasn't it? It's a constant issue with him.

No. The crash happened at the front of the peleton, and in fact he was riding third in the peleton for most of the stage, and was with his team when the crash occurred. I reckon you did not watch the race.

Is plapp the better sprinter to go for some bonifications rest of the way? He shouldn't drop lopez on the remaining terrain.

But sure not a great day for astana. Ulissi has no chance on getting serious points and 40 of lopez points are in danger of plapp (and he lost 9 points today in the sprint)

It is Lopez' race to lose. Stage 4 has a descent finish and even if Plapp takes time on the ascent then he will lose it on the descent.

It wasn't at the front, the crash happened about 30 or 40 riders back. You brought it up as though he was behind when it happened but it just looks like he's lost positions and time after it, that's even worse.

The beginnings of the crash happened in the first 15 to 20% of the peleton and caused a ripple effect causing riders a bit further down the peleton to crash. There was also a ripple effect on the side Jayco were riding and in fact Groenewegen was lucky not to crash which in turn inconvienced Plapp causing him to lose ground. The fact is that Plapp was with his team at this stage and actually rode much of the stage in third place. If Plapp was riding at the back he would have lost 40 or 50 seconds.

The fact that Plapp lost time yesterday was not because of the crash. He was there after it. He lost it, because he did not pull until the end. While Lopez sprinted to get the 0 seconds, plapp took a break and lost 7 seconds
