Steff Cras was the only non-UAE rider with level in mountain :(

Movistar has taken Gaviria to a race with four mountain stages

One question, though... how in the heck did Johansen get 2nd? I mean... I'm not complaining - I need all the points I can get for the CQ game - but... hoooooow?
On X:
He was in the breakaway, 8 minutes ahead of the peloton, along with two riders from a continental team and Ivan Cortina. He and Cortina were left alone. Cortina dropped him on the climb, but had an incident (a crash or puncture), and Johansen caught him. Without the incident, Cortina would've won in a solo

Well, Movistar won while UAE had 4 of the top 7…
With an 8-minute break, not even Movistar could lose today 😅
The level is really poor.

Taking Gaviria to a race with four mountain stages is still strange.
Maybe tomorrow he will have a chance if he can pass that mountain.

That is the stage with the least mountain.

Obviously, but can you understand how I got a little surprised by seeing his name pop up there on PCS?
He was in the break with Cortina and two guys from the Continental team who fought the intermediate sprints and dropped after the final sprint.

Cortina then dropped Johansen, gained several seconds, but caught him because something seemed to happen to Cortina.

Considering Soler finished third, he probably didn't help Cortina. Even so, Cortina wins easy in the sprint.

Yes, yes. I get that... but I'd no way of knowing that, because - as you've pointed out - there are no images, or no live update.

And Cras abandonded? That guy just has a very tiny amount of luck.

Yes, it's very difficult to interpret a race whit X comments. And the organizers show the final sprint with that image :sob: .

Johansen doesn't seem to have had a special performance. He joined a break with Cortina and two continental riders who, once they had the sprint points, decided not to continue.
According to the comments, Cortina attacked him on the final climb and drop him easily.
Until then, I think Cortina wasn't interested in riding 100 km alone. The break formed at the start of the stage.

Covi lost 12 minutes. He must have had some incident.

GC:
Second De la Calle (Burgos ) 20 years
Third Samuel Fernandez (Caja Rural) 21
Fourth Adria Pericas (UAE) 18

Soler vs. Baby Giro :tearsofjoy:
It's a shame about Steff Cras. He crashed on a descent.

Another quality lesser known race, the Tour de Brétagne, got started today, lots of punchy and twisty terrain, small climbs, narrow roads, and all the chaotic goodness that Brittany has to offer. As a 2.2 race it has no WT teams, but over half of the teams at that level have development teams contesting the race, which traditionally has seen a strong presence of top developing talents. Most stages end on bumpy, technical circuits, as is common in the race. The first stage is also the flattest, but sprinters were foiled by a trio who stayed away, with Ilan Larmet, a 23yo on the Rouen 76 amateur team, besting Josh Golliker of EF's development team and Cedric Abt of the German Continental team Lotto-Kern Haus.

Also over in Belgrade-Banja Luka, New Zealand's own Paul Wright, brother of World Championship double silver medallist biathlete Campbell (who now represents the USA), took stage 3 in an uphill sprint ahead of race leader Dušan Rajović. There isn't too much to say about this, I hadn't been following the race which looks like it's mostly been sprints as usual, but you know, biathlon mention to get out there and all that.

Gaviria had a fall in the UAE Tour and was injured. He is going to do the Giro so maybe they want him to race a little before. It's the only thing that makes sense.
