Why would Thijssen's team car be wo far down the caravan? Shouldn't the jersey No. 1 mean anything, or am I mistaken here?

I am not sure if that was smart from Hagenes. You give like 5 decent the teams a reason to chase now

Alpecin got #1 because MvdP won last year, while car order is based on UCI points. And looking at their lineup, they can't have many

Pietro Mattio is quite a good name, sounds like he should be an Italian winger from the 90s, playing for Udinese with his long hair and headband, 10-15 goals a season, probably should be at a bigger team but ends up as a one man club out of loyalty.

I don't agree with the second part. He couldve perfectly tried to take 3-5 riders with him and then drop them in the end if he's that strong. Always better to do your attack at 90% and try to get a solid group first

Unless youre strong enough to actually solo it ofc or if another group with Visma riders jumps towards him

Peloton is very disorganised, they keep trying to attack at random moments that aren’t necessarily suitable for it

Yeah bit surprised Red Bull isn't just organizing, they have like 3 of the top 5 favorites. Probably no one really worried about Hagenes and a lot of free roles in certain teams

You answered your own question. 3 out of 5 want to go for it themselves, the other two might be saving themselves for leadout of Meeus
