Matthieu van der Poel wins the Tour of Limburg beating Theo Bos in a bunch sprint.

Ronde van Limburg 2014 (1.1)
1. Mathieu van der Poel (BKCP-Powerplus)
2. Paul Martens (Belkin)
3. Greg Henderson (Lotto Belisol)
4. Michael Van Staeyen (TopSport Vlaanderen-Baloise)
5. Baptiste Planckaert (Roubaix Lille Métropole)

So not Bos, but still a great result

Hasn't he already committed to CX for a few years?
He signed with BKCP for 4 years basically for his time as a U23. But UCI rules as I understand them, mean he can break his contract if a Protour team offer him a contract.

Yeah and said that CX is his real love and he wants to fullfill his whole contract with BKCP as a CX rider. But seeing how monstrously talented he is it almost seems like a waste of time to me.

At least let him dominate CX for a while, that's fine by me.

I mean, I agree it would be a shame if he did CX forever never doing any big races on the road, but if he likes CX, what's wrong with doing CX for a while? I find CX to be a very nice sport, tbh.

Btw, does anybody know the height and weight of Mathieu? In the juniors he was winning climbing races and in an interview his brother compared him to some GC riders, but with the pro's his best results so far have been two sprints and a prologue. So is this guy really the second coming of Merckx, or is he going to be less of a climber with the pro's?

Lol on his twitter he says he didn't expect to win the peloton sprint after an attacking race. Are you telling me 19 year old all-rounder skipping the espoirs wins a 1.1 race in a bunch sprint after already attacking.

Thijs Zonneveld's tweet made me laugh:
"En Mathieu van der Poel wint zijn eerste koers bij de grote mannen. Het werd tijd. Hij is al 19"

"And Mathieu van der Poel wins his first race with the big guys. It was getting time. He's already 19"

Don't know but he looks very tall and skinny to me like most Dutch riders. :p I'm guessing he'll go the Boom, Stybar route and race full cross seasons for awhile while dabbling on the road before switching over after picking up a CX Worlds title or two.

When you look at that profile you think that looks tough, but looking in more detail you realise that it is really pretty flat, I wish they wouldn't do such misleading profiles:D
