Would be a wise decision to bring him IMO. He was 4th in stage 2 of Tirreno, in the mix with names such as Cav, Demare, Greipel, Sagan, Modolo and others (and he beat Sagan).

So maybe he could manage to get a couple top 10's. And if nothing else he could just use it to gain experience in riding GT's. He can always drop out early as well if need be.

They generally do bring a sprinter. With Schorn MIA, why not Bennett?

Yeah, they did bring Schorn and Dempster to the Vuelta, which on paper looks like they brought a sprinter and one lead out. I have to say that I don't really remember them contesting the sprints though!

(What has happened to Schorn, by the way? Has he even raced this year? Dempster has been Bennett's last man for most of this season and he's been very good at dropping Bennett onto a useful wheel. But Schorn seems to have dropped off the face of the earth).

he was suffering like a dog in Tirreno. I think it's too early for him do to the Tour, unless it's just for a week or something like that

Yes, I think that it's a big adjustment when a rider, particularly a sprinter, gets to hit his first real mountain stages at the top level races. There just isn't anything like that in the usual race calendar of a team like An Post.

I don't really see what trying to finish the Tour halfway through his first pro season gets Bennett other than exhaustion. But the Tour is very front loaded for sprint stages this year, so if you have a good sprinter there's a strong argument for bringing him for those stages.

Bennett was quite cagey when asked about the Tour by a local tv interviewer after the race. He said that of course he'd love to go, but he's a neopro and it might be too much to ask in his first season. He also said that there will be a lot of very strong riders looking to be selected and that he expects the team to be primarily trying something in the mountains with Konig.

How much of this is what he thinks, how much is the team "party line", how much is him not ruffling teammates feathers by seeming too arrogant, who knows.

(With all due respect to NetApp, who are good for a PC team, I'm not sure that I can get past about about seven riders including Bennett who I'd describe as "very strong". A longer list made up of both "very strong" and "pretty decent", sure.)

Today Silvio Herklotz has more luck: he solos to the win in the GP Palio del Recioto (1.2U) after attacking with 4k to go. Impressive stuff.

Published reports indicate that none other than Philippe Gilbert was in the break on today's stage of the Tour de Picardie, good for him. He took the mountains jersey.

Well first stage done, good feeling, break away then Kom then crash then chasing the group behind the cars. Tomorrow will be better.
