Phenomenal ride. 90km solo in those conditions. Sure, he got help because of the lack of cohesion in the group behind, but Movistar having two fast finishers in that group as well as Gibbons surfing solo doomed the group. If you noticed at Cresta del Gallo the chase group consisted of Cuadros and Amezqueta for Caja Rural, Antoine Berlin for Global 6 (!!!) and Gonzalo Serrano, and the Caja guys were just sitting on Serrano. Perhaps partly as he left their team, but partly because he was the best finisher of that group, so they wanted him to work so they could double team him. And then once the rest of the group caught on, it needed some cohesion to bring that group back but nobody wanted to work with Gibbons (who was on his own and didn't contribute much) or the Movistar guys and they didn't work very well as both Amezqueta and Madrazo both wanted to try their own attacks (in the latter case, well, duh, he's Ángel Madrazo) and as we all know, one rider going their own tempo is going to be in a better position than an argumentative group attacking each other then slowing down.
Although watching a Euskaltel rider bunnyhop on a wet descent while leading a race was a heart in mouth moment. I mean, it's not like they have form...
