Let's admit it. The doping angle of cycling makes it great.

If my intrepretation was wrong then whay not address it then?
Also my comment "You (& the OP) are entitled to believe that the doping adds to the sport - but many of us do not share that view." - is not an 'ad hominem'.

I think the "welcomed" aspect is one of many possible subjective and minor interpretations of his post.

But it is undeniable that many of the most active members here increase their posts dramatically with each new doping scandal. Just as it is undeniable that this is the current state of professional cycling... and just like a crash on the highway, no one is looking away.

Are you agreeing with the OP or not.

Oh dont be silly of course it does . It is a superb thread with all the ongoings of a Hollywood directors meeting , slugging it out for the content of the movie .
The base of the novel is pounded out and the interperative English is argued to death to the last letter of the alphabet .
The opener is such a splendid one liner that has both sides arguing over the same thing. It deserves an award .
well done !

I put cycling in the realm of Olympic Sport. A competition between the most worthiest of opponents. Now please people, tell me how doping can improve on that premise.

Supposedly he was in the restaurant with Lance and the crew in Austin when they formed Livestrong having a chow down of some ribs.

I liked how Hombre always talking about his son having a FTP of about 400 watts, a 6 to 1 power to weight ratio, and an ivy league doctor. He always bragged about being a doctor himself, but Hurricane Camille found out he was merely a chiropractor bignoting himself. Love these bros from Texas. never tire of them.

I won't deny that all the drama does not detract from my fascination of cycling.

But that is not the same as to say it makes it great.
At least not in my definition of the word, but maybe that is hypocritical to say that.
On the other hand my interest was born out of the drama on the road, and not the drama "behind the scenes".
(by that I mean I was unaware of what went on, and therefore did not consider it in my decision to be a cycling follower)

For me there has always been this bizarre thing about cycling taking it to extremes.
In the old days with little media and public awareness on doping/corruption is was 500km stages that framed the drama.

Today it has evolved to a more multifaceted drama.

But the doping has always been there, in some way or form.

Aye........everyone needs a hobby...........and living in an internet forum and accusing everything that moves of being on the AICAR is far less destructive than musical theatre...........

The doping itself is odious.

It's all the lying, misdirection, and plain old corruption that follows that is entertaining. The occasional truthful witness brings clarity that highlights the lying liars who lie.

Of course it does. I'd make this statement over at cyclingforums and people'd get so ****ed off over there. Man, they did not like having the rug pulled out from under them. What's going on behind the curtains is always more interesting.

Vaughters had a couple more years of racing left in his legs but instead departed for the more fiscally fertile and safer grounds behind the scenes. Hell, Livingston, if memory serves me, jumped the small cesspool that is pro cycling and went straight to Wall Street.

Don't get too attached to your idols. They aren't genuine. Armstrong got lucky. Good genes, a good connect and he responded well to the drugs of his generation. Raas, Kuiper, Merckx... the same. Drugs dictated and continue to dictate everything.

What's happening in cycling happens in every sport. There was a guy over at cyclingforums -- I've forgotten his handle but BroDeal likely remembers -- he used to state over and over that cycling is a dirty sport. Not just the doping but everything about it.

He was right. Embrace it. Embrace it or find another sport where the muckety mucks haven't tried to clean it up yet. Some say cleaning up the sport has ruined it, but I'm with Sanitiser on this one. It's only made it mroe interesting.

D-Queued, wasn't Lance' idiom, "hotter than donut grease"? looks more like a cheap slapper to me, but I aint a patron of Yellow Rose

Lance looks youthful and cherubic there. dont tell Betsy.

He looks well aged in the last 5 years, like he has put on two decades of his life right there. It is a bit sad, if he never came back he would have his 100 million and a possibility to earn another 100 million on his fame.

Some real characters from back in the day. Some would say the message boards back then had more life to it. There aren't many skyfans who fit the trick like the postal fans were. It was strong as horseradish.
Big pumpkin hearts - 400 watts with 6 to 1 and serious lactic acid threshold.
Some of those folks from other message boards are still around some are not. To bad because amongst all that noise and clutter were some serious info. The other interesting thing to note is we know Floyd was around a message board or two and so was the yellowrose, along with a few other pro's pro.

yellow rose should comp us Elisa Basso dances for all the free publicity we have brought that hangout.

woulda been some pretty freaky Livestrong parties in Austin, and they say that Jalabert's pot-belge parties in Cannes were famous.

Glenn can you remember when they opened up the Discovery Channel team with a forum, for all the homers of Lance and the American team... and the folks at cyclingforums got wind of it, and thought it would be a good place to play funny buggers with the deluded Discovery fans.

The trick was, to register an account, and start posting like a deluded fanboi and a really ignorant cycling fan... then you start to play funny buggers with them. I remember Vadar was brilliant and really killing it. I had a few posts, I was promoting the Astana team... actually, this may have even been when Lance came back to ride on Astana, and I was rabbiting on about the kazakh steppe and yak's milk. good times...

I think Vadar was Thoughtforfood, and then there was the infamous italiano with really really really bad put-on pidgin italian english. I think we had an inkling of who italiano may or may not have been :D

I also enjoyed posting pornograhic images with Armstrong's photoshopped likeness enjoying unnatural relations with other members of the peloton. And members of the forum too. Bobke got some Lance lovin' if I recall correctly.

There should be one thread in the clinic where the gloves are off. No holds barred.

Yes but I can't remember what year they had the Disco forums. It was rather funny because so many people had fake accounts. And yes most of the people had lots of fun. Some tried to do that here but that is a big NO NO. And yes I learned the hard way ------don't mess with "tick", she don't like fun and games with her message board.
Anyhow it was the good ole days as they say.

I think Bobke was dialled in enough to know Lance was on the program, But I have some empathy for House, cos I really think he thought Armstrong was clean. House was a mate of Kevin Livingstone's from his hometown he told us, not sure how truthful that was...

House was completely ignorant of the whole ruse. He was so emotionally invested. Take a LeMond fan and multiply by ten and you get House. No argument could penetrate his bubble.

I don't think you know who "tick" is.

Anyhow you guys not being able to curse is a good thing. I keep getting in trouble with it here but try my best not to do it.

I was a long time ago in touch with House but have long since not kept up. Anyhow Maybe he is here and we just don't know it. Maybe Hombre is here supporting sky? Sometimes I get that feeling.

I remember an old member here and on the other forum that used to say that dope was what made the tour interesting. Without it we would have some winner who was stale like week old bread much like JV is as an owner manager.
