everyone keeps bringing this up

but here's the thing. he criticised vino for coming back and winning. he can't criticise the RS rider for coming back and winning because he hasn't yet.

he probably didnt know about levi. however there is no way he's ignorant of some other risers who have returned from suspension and won races (david millar for one)

Im sorry i disagree , Taylor said Vino should just go away as he is a cheat . I interpretated that as though he believes he shouldnt be riding in the professional ranks. Vino served his suspension and as far as we are aware has abided by the rules since his return and has every right to win races .

Im a bit confused , are you saying that Taylor is saying you can return from a suspension aslong as you only return as a muel for supposedly clean riders but is not allowed to compete for the win , i personally cant believe Taylor is that naive and would say something that rediculous but i have probably just misunderstood your post

What I was meaning was people keep criticising TP for his comments on vino and his double standards about not commenting on Levi or Fuyu.
I'm saying he prob didnt know about Levi, and Fuyu hasn't yet returned to racing so using them as an example is silly. However there are other riders that have done similar to vino (like david millar) which he didn't single out

hope that's a little clearer.

Ok i think i get it , your basically saying you agree it was a stupid thing to do singling out Vino but people should be using Millar and others as an example as opposed to Fuyu

'hey joe' any news yet?

I DID get a reply from USA Cycling that I don't want to give away yet, because it provided for follow-up by myself and a correspondent from one of the big three (ABC/NBC/CBS) who is also interested.

Joe,
Have them put some coaching feet to the fire and disclose how many "in house" tests the Natz team put the guys through before sending them to a race they would be tested. All before this period. Some familiar names should come up...

Anyone seen the insipid infomercials for Levi's "Rider ID"? It really shows the payback for silence principle with Bob Roll and several other bobbleheads agreeing with Levi about the grave need for this product. ID Bracelet? Is that all Levi gets? He'll need it when Lance writes his history of cycling and doesn't give his teammates even a footnote.

Excuse me senior citizen. (I can call you that because I am elderly also)

Lance has shared equally with his riders financially. Also riders are more well known on his team.

It is like the BS that the Lance dislikers spout about Lance gutting the Astana team.

Here is the skinny. The Astana riders and crew were not getting paid in 09.
What would the bolsheviks in cycling news forum do in that situation.

What would you or Joe Papp do in that situation?

I would look for greener pastures in that situation.

You conveniently leave out the part where Armstrong uses this as justification for saying that if he had been in Contador's shoes the riders that were supposedly loyal to him (Contador) would have stayed. So he questions Contador's leadership and business skills all in one.

Also the part where he attempts to assasinate Contador's character by implying that he never thanked his teammates during the Tour or afterwards.
Of course we have more than one rider that contradicts this statement (Zubeldia for one).

Here is the skinny, Lance often screwed his teammates financially. Astana riders were paid last year.

If Lance is such a good guy why did he make all the Radioshack staff take a 10% pay cut from their Astana salaries?....... Same reason he stocked the team with a handful of GT riders and 20 cheap guys, less expenses means more $$$ in Armstrong's pocket.

We're talking about pro cyclists working for a guy worth a ridiculous amount of money, earning millions in endorsements and speaking engagements. All the while "not taking any salary" and, apparently; not speaking up for his teammates on the one issue dear to all of them? That's not smart business or sports. That little Michelob add in the upper corner, see that? Do you think LA couldn't apply some of that to the other guys?

Respectfully Lance is an icon for cycling. I am not arguing against your opinions whether they are true or not.

I want to watch pro-cycling. I will buy electronics at the shack because I like their product and I want to support the team+ their prices are competitve.Ditto TREK. I will buy a little livestrong garb at the ToC to give as gifts to my kids. Just some support.

I am dubious about all charitable organizations. It means nothing to me if Lance rides 3rd class public transportation or flies a new gulfstream.

I just see this. He and Bruyneel created a new team with new sponsors.

The USA Cycling Response

Thanks to Floyd for doing my work for me...

But here is the USA Cycling string. You can see them actively trying to protect L.L.:

Hi Joe-
We have changed legal counsel and moved offices in the many years since 1996, so we do not have any records on site. In any event, if we are able to locate any archives we would need Leipheimer’s express permission to share information. Before we undertake the effort necessary to search for these records it would make your (and our) task easier if you could get the records directly from him or at least get a release from Mr. Leipheimer.
Thanks.

Thanks, Andrea. I appreciate your looking into this. I’d also like to know if the suspension was appealed, and if so, whether or not it was upheld, modified, rejected, etc. and who was named national criterium champion in L.L.’s place.

Best,

Joe

Hi Andrea, Keri –

I’m writing a story for publication concerning Levi Leipheimer, and need USA Cycling to confirm his initial suspension in 1996 for doping, after he tested positive at the US National Criterium Championship in Ohio on August 18, 1996. The news release, text of which follows below, would have been sent out in early-October, I believe:

A USA Cycling disciplinary panel recommended that Levi Leipheimer receive a three-month suspension as a result of a violation of Bylaw N., Section 2, Part 4, Prohibited Practices, stemming from competition at the USCF Amateur Men's Criterium Championship, Aug. 18 in Grandview Heights, Ohio. That recommendation has been upheld by Lisa Voight, USA Cycling executive director. The 23-year- old Leipheimer will be required to return his national championship jersey, medal and prize money. He will also be suspended from the U.S. National Team for the same period. The decision is subject to appeal.

Joe, that was just the rights of passage to becoming a pro. Kinda like riding on top of a train from El Salvador crossing the Arizona desert at night sleeping with the scorpians and rattlers during the day.

Getting a job in an L.A. sweatshop. Working 12 hours a day 6 days a week and sending your paychecks home to your family who live under a volcano and eat meat once a month. You know the deal.

Guys I knew who raced would go to a race and sleep in the cemetary, no money for hotel. Be gracious for what you have brother.

translate: "it would make our lives easier if you would just fcuk off"

Now would be a good time for some of the media outlets covering Flandis to do a little investigative journalism on this one, instead of sitting on their hands.

so to get this straight... LL got sanctioned by USAcycling, but you need to get permission from LL to obtain confirmation about this sanction?

That's like sanctioning Iran for pursuing nuclear weapons, which was once published in a forgotten newspaper, and now to verify whether this happened, the UN Security Council asks you to go straight to the source - Iran - to ask permission to corroborate the sanction...

that's pretty comical.
