Seriously? That article doesn't suggest that to be the case. All it really says is:

Initial examinations on his shoulder showed “a hematoma in both my neck and the articulation that I dislocated. These are putting pressure on the nerve system and are the cause of the pain. Besides this, I still have the inflammation in the left leg, from overcompensating the painful shoulder with a cramped position on the bike.”

-

This all seems quite normal to me. Further medical tests don't suggest it, either. What comments attributed to Bruyneel? At no point did he imply that the injury was worse than it first appeared.

I drew the inference based on:

. JB reported to have indicated that he had a shoulder problem and implied this would have minimal impact on his ability to ride.

. Frank noted symptoms/restrictions were not limited to shoulder and reported problems associated with modified posture/pedalling action. So problems as experienced/reported by Frank were more extensive than just a shoulder injury.

I intended to suggest more extensive and therefore the term "serious" was strictly imprecise. Additional tests suggests to me (perhaps me alone) that more extensive is a valid inference.

But maybe it is just a case of clarifying diagnosis/treatment and his injury is only a simple shoulder as initially reported. I prefer to allow that Frank was in significantly more difficulty that initial reports suggested. To wit he was disabled to a greater extent than JB (initially?) appreciated.

Aside...but relevant analogies:

Casey Stoner was bagged several years ago for "wimping out" in the Moto GP. Several commentators indicated the thought Casey was effectively weak in the head. Subsequent testing was reported (edit) to reveal a viral infection.

More recently Thor's capacity/application (my inference...again) has been questioned. I understand that he now suspects a long term viral infection.

Overall my central thought is give people the benefit of the doubt...

Team rider Ben Hermans stepped it up to finish 13th on the queen stage of climbing: “Can you imagine that I thought of abandoning in the beginning of the stage?” asked Ben Hermans after the stage. “Immediately after the start on the Tonale I was dropped. I was with a small group of 8 riders and even Mark Cavendish was not in that group so I was in a bad way. We made our way through the cars to join up with Cav’s group and when I was in the peloton I started to feel better and better. I think my motor needed some time to get going. On the Mortirolo I had a good feeling but didn’t force myself and with a good descent I arrived in the group of Rodriguez and Hesjedal. Halfway up the Stelvio there was some acceleration and I had to let them go because Tshopp in front of me couldn’t follow and we were put in the wind. Suddenly we were blown away! During the last 2k I tried to return but I couldn’t. It was so hard in the open like that. But I am very happy with the end of my Giro. It started out not so good for me, but now I have good feelings. It has been a hard three week race. Always on fire immediately from the start each and every day. And then the past few days have been long stages and many transfers. It’s hard.”

LOL Hermans!!
Being dropped earlier than Cav and still finishing 13th. what a ride he's had

You guys DO realize that this is an event that's initiated and organized by people other then the Shrecks themselves?

To me this looks like a desperate attempt of the luxembourg officials to have a huzzah!-moment. Whether or not Andrew takes joy in this we can not know, so the usual slander is, as usual, way over the top. For all we know he could show up at the event with a bad mood face and be utterly annoyed, we won't know beforehand. He might find the situation awkward and even point that out.

Now, if he gets on the stage, expresses himself to be the best cyclist in the multiverse, proceeds to marry his girlfriend on stage and tell everyone that he earned the award fair and square and that the filthy spaniard should go out and have intercourse with a goat, then that'd be a different situation and he should be called out as being a very naughty boy.

So far he hasn't. Let's keep it at that.

I think it's mostly ASO who insists on doing this, but surely Luxembourg officials and politicians are glad to play along and get a nice picture in the paper. It's funny that no one remembers the Pereiro ceremony, that was beyond ridiculous. It just goes to show once again that all the haters suffer from selective perception and memory

Actually I did see that.... for about 29 seconds. RSNT have become the Cofidis of the ProTour.

I'm glad they got a ProTour licence and FDJ didn't. Makes perfect sense.

I did read that Bruyneel has set up a helpline for RadioShack fans... the number is: 1-800-101010..........

Get it?

1-800- won-nothing-won-nothing...!!

Hahahaha! :p

Lol nice one. FDJ has a ProTour license though and Cofidis doesn't IINM

Quite the rollercoaster. But nice for him that he got to finish his first GT on such a positive note, I think he suffered a lot during the 3 weeks

 Yeah selective perception. Of course.

Besides, this ceremony will be just as ridiculous.

Keep in mind that I'm always right. (except when I said that Basso would win the Giro)

Yeah you have no problem in criticising Andy for this who by the way is not at fault in anyway whatsoever but you say nothing against the guy who actually caused this farcical situation in the first place.

Whatever. If you think that title is still Contador's your having a laugh.

Andy is well within his right to take this title and if I was in his shoes I would blast Contador for what he has done.

You criticise a fellow who did'nt test positive but you say nothing against the guy who actually did. One rule for one rider and another rule for another rider with yee.
no son.

if everyone was tested in the same lab, with the same rules, contador wouldn't have tested positive.

of course contador is the rightful winner.

Shh..! This is not a Contador thread!

We've discussed this over and over again and there'll always be disagreement. Let's just agree to disagree, you know?

that's a tribute to Ryder, canadian-norwegian. they know about snow :D

Garmin make RSNT look like a B-grade team in terms of "team" work ethic.

Great result for team Garmin.

Thus really must hurt for Bruyneel watching so much successes for JV and the clean team.

Don't worry my friend. Kid Contador will win the Vuelta and Andy will still have nothing to show in 2012.

He who laughs last laughs loudest!

I offer everyone who supports Team RadioShack Nissan Trek or at least has a drop of elementary respect towards the team to take my position - in other words, to stop reacting on knowingly incorrect provocative drivel that flooded most of the forum, this thread included.

I support cancellara, and he IS team radioshack nissan trek. he attacks, defends, wins, makes races, brings the results.... if he wasn't ill RSNT would have a better place in those strange rankings. so, am i clear to support your position?

... and the Bruyneel-Frank story continues - The Mighty Hog issues Oscar-grade self-nomination for the best motivational speech in the history of cycling (and maybe even the sport as such)

"Perhaps it is strange that I air my displeasure through the media, but I hope I both Frank and the other riders are motivated to do better in future."
