Hard to do if you support clean riders who get robbed of victories by these guys.

David Millar was banned and was repentent, and took a very long time to get his form back..

Vinokourov is an unrepentant drugs cheat so you have to take this result with a pinch of salt, Its a very bad situation for cycling.
Don't go against the mob on here. You will get your head chopped off!

people cheat everywhere, in Uni, at work, in society at large, in business, on wal straat, in criminal business, in war and in peace. Lawyers cheat, students do, the clergy does, politicians, cyclists, football players, perhaps even some family members.

No one is an altar boy... :p
not everyone is a cheat. lets go down this path though.

So what? Whatever brings people to the sport, right? If Gesink had (magically ) won today I'd be bouncing off the walls

To an extent yes.

They keep cheeting, other spend time and money trying to catch them so they have to cheet some more.....

At worst it pretty entertaining at best its keeping the Euro zone economy going!:p

That's fine, you can hate the guy, but shouldn't be saying it's a sad day for cycling. Whatever his attitude was regarding his conviction he still did the time, has come back and won the race fair and square. If millar won RVV people wouldn't say its a sad day for cycling.. news flash they did the same sh!t. And irregardless of their 'attitudes' it shouldn't reflect differently on the sport.

Like others have said, cycling is what it is.

Did is the important distinction here.

I don't have a problem with someone coming back after a (proper) sanction. But what I saw today - a rider back to the level he was at when caught (at 36!) - even if I predicted it, it is yet another sad day for cycling.

Millar was never the rider vino was, so his post-dope progress doesn't properly apply.

And Basso. Props to Basso and Millar.

lol what?

Vino and Basso practically came back at the same (one year apart I know) time, in fact Vino came back a couple months earlier. AND Basso won Trentino last year, when vino did this year. And Then podium at Giro. Apart from being repentent (lol barely at that) how are they any different in terms of building form?

Personal feelings aside, Vino has built his form brilliantly and I applaud his excellent victory today.

Seems like perception is the main variable here.

EDIT: Basso 4th sorry.

Are you being sarcastic?

Basso denied, denied some more, gave his dog another name, swore on his children, signed a new contract, denied some more and when he really had no other options left but admitting or committing suicide, he said he planned to dope but didn't actually do it.

Really, props.

The exact reason why basshole is #1 on my despise list.
Heart and soul of a true weasel.

Okay...seriously....everyone over to the Clinic!!! :p

I wonder what is worse.
Being unrepentant doper who carries on doping, or a repentant doper who carries on doping?
After all, we've only got their word for it.

Something tells me it's going to be a long, long Giro.........

I didn't say everyone is a cheat. I said no one is an altar boy.

I'll tell what's better, a denier who stops doping = Basso.

And a confessor who stops doping = Millar.

Millar was caught with his hand in the cookie jar and suddenly became Holier-Than-Thou. I don't trust that anymore than Vino. If you get caught IMO you should shut up, I'd spit on Millar as a fellow pro.

Vino is way more talented than Millar, so your comparison doesn't really make sense.

Vino is a cheat so its irrelevant that he has more talent than David Millar, Its better to admit cheating every time. Even Track running sprinter Marion Jones was repentant eventually after getting banged up in jail.

come on man think.

That goes to my reference about jailhouse dudes watching sports. Beware the mob, where neither truth nor justice are much liked, but the spectacle and exclusively the spectacle for what it is.

I have new respect for Lance today, LOL!

I'm off now....!

Be careful stepping down off your high horse. ;):p

That's just their way of trying to keep/getting new sponsor contracts. Vino doesn't need that since his country is his sponsor and they'll believe him when he says he shits frogs.

Cheating, getting caught, being sorry. Well, you shouldn't have cheated in the first place. Being repentant because your manager thinks that's the best thing to do is not worth any respect.
