What are your thoughts on the finish? I'd say the small hike in the route profile is too far from the finish to make any difference. The route does favour a breakaway and since no sprinters are in for a shot for the yellow jersey they might not be so eager to chase. However since it's so early in the race (second stage) I'd say the sprinters' teams should reel them in before the finish.

Maybe we have the break of the day?
4 men going away are Stephane Auge (who else?), Cyril Dessel ( a surprise) Stef Clemont and Jussi Veikkanen....

The gap is now 3min+ so I think that seems to be the break of the day. They won't stay away to the finish so maybe they're in for the mountain points. Veikkanen is hunting for a stage win for FdJ in this Tour but maybe they want him to grab the polka dot jersey.

EDIT: Tony Martin has 6pts and Veikkanen has 3pts now

LOL. These commentators give about ten times as much info as Phil and Paul.

.

Yeah, content-rich, mistake-light - a breath of fresh air. But whenever I hear Aussie commentary I cant help but think of the 12th man CDs.

What a horrible bike/wheel change from Saxo Bank.
If Menchov would have had those mechanics working for him in the Giro, he wouldn't have won the pink.

Im in Ausland and just flicked onto SBS and why isnt phil and paul on. It is the south african guys from the stream posted earlier in the thread.

Just wondering?

Maybe the nursing home only lets phil and paul out for a certain amount of hours a day?:D

They all looked like they were content to take their time.

He is getting a nice draft back to the group. :)

I seem to have forgotten if riders can take advantage of their team cars when getting back to the pack after a crash/mechanical. So can they? And when can they otherwise draft and when can't they?

I think that they can de deducted points in the Points Classification.

Strange that Saxo kept riding at the front when he went down and no-one went to help him. I know it wasn't a fast pace but a bit strange all the same.

As I understand it, it is technically illegal but everyone looks the other way.

Ok thanks. I was wondering since at least in our local races it is strictly forbidden and riders (or their helpers) easily make official complaints if someone drafts a team car.

Le Tour is unique. It is the only sport where the rules are not set in stone. Attitude is more important than effort.

It depends on how you hold on to the car and for how long and how good your mechanic/doctor is at pretending to fix your problem.
