It's quite likely that 1) the last climb would have suited Gilbert/Visconti/Paolini vs Nibali more than the Ghisallo and 2) that had he not tried to break up the group and they stayed together they would have been caught anyway as the gap was about 25 seconds when he attacked.

Still, going solo with 50+ to go against a relatively big group was never going to work and he or the team car should have understood that.

ya i also agree with this you can see on the race thread that i said nibali should sit up as soon as he reached the top of the ghisallo he had cracked gilbert who had went into the red to try to keep up so he had a very good chance of getting away on the final climb. i highly doubt zaugg would have won this one if nibali played it a bit smarter. which is strange imo as he usually reads a race pretty well and failed miserably today, jens_attack also reported that there was headwind on the flat which was another reason to sit up.

The Shark has grown on me over the years, at first I discounted him as not gifted enough. But he has taken what nature gave him and turned himself into a darned good bike rider :) Grit, determination, love of the bike and will to win are all displayed; now he's working on a bit of panache! He is still young enough for even more improvement.

For Vuelta 2010 I put a win bet on him after seeing his Giro, 3rd while riding in service! Ever since I cashed that bet he's been on my Smile list, every time I see him I smile :)

I hope he tries the Tour, he should do better than Basso, and I'll will him to a podium finish!

Great ride today squalo :)

Go Shark!!!!

THe hitch plz stop lying about me it's pathetic.

I have never said Nibali NEVER attacks. gbye now, you're on my ignore list forever. The comments in the Tirreno topic were already pretty bad with you flat out ignoring race dynamics changes if TTT doesn't count. This is the final straw. Never thought you'd go into the idiot route. I'm tired of you twisting my words every time you get a chance to. It's almost like it's your goal to twist my words and turn them into something I never meant to say.

On topic: props to Nibali, he was outright the strongest today.

Attacked in many mountain stages?? LOL

Nice joke. I've only ever seen Nibali clamp on to other wheels in mountain stages. Maybe you should rewatch the Vuelta 10 stages. :D Nibali only limits damage. He doesn't attack. But react

Vincenzo is once again proving WRONG the doubters-there is no reason to downgrade his abilities & style-he did have a mediocre last year-but looking back -a 2nd spot in the Giro ain't bad at all- but now he's returned at winning, which is only going to stimulate him to continue this path.

Grande Vincenzo !!!!:)

You are a living joke and too easy to make fun of. I would really like to see that 'massive' ignore list of yours...

getting back on topic

I love Nibali ... I was so happy to see him give it a go yesterday, and that it paid off for him.

I really hope he can get the gap in the TT tomorrow

I can't believe some people even suggested he shouldn't ride the Tour. ;)

Indeed-The Sponsors literally told the DT to chill Sagan a bit so Nibbs could do his thing... and that's the way it supposed to be when the overall GC is in play....
hopefully The Shark won't be in need to send the "Sicilian" backup to make Sagan an offer he couldn't refuse:D
