Totally messed up my predictions... now i should go betting (regression to the mean is working for me now:D).

Final:
1. Clown Bolt 9.68
2. Gatlin 9.75
3. Blake 9.79

one of the best 100 m ever....bolt does it again!
chapeau to gatlin who showed once for all that the class never disappears.
too bad for asafa,it could have been a final with all the guys under 10 sec.

also sweetie rypakova gets another one for vino's homeland.kazakhstan, from 6 medals...6 are gold.

Good one, I nearly spit out my drink when I read the line about Gatlin.
Has Powell's injury been confirmed or did he pull a not-so-fast one a la Michael Johnson in the 150 metre run vs Bailey?

No, it is good. It is an absolute farce that he is sued his way into competing. On normal legs he would not be good enough to make a high school team.

Fair sport is being sacrificed for feel-good media coverage.

That's BS. He qualified for the semis as everyone else did. So he's not good enough to get through to the final - only eight guys are.

That's funny as I've just read an interview, in which is says if he has one advantage with these 'legs', he still has 10 other disadvantages.

Here is a (/n old) blog post modelling medal count as a function of GDP and population I googled. Probably someone else was wondering aout this too...

Anyone notice that some a$$hat threw a bottle onto the track behind Blake at the 100m final start?

"Throwing a bottle on to the field of play is unacceptable not just at an Olympic Games, at any sports venue," said Coe. "The guy was removed, anyone who does that in future will be removed.
"It was poetic justice that they did that sitting next to a judo player. I think the expression is 'Ippon'."

There has been a lot of talk about his legs and the science certainly isn't clear. I've heard so much conflicting information that I don't know what to believe.

I thing I do know though is that picture from pedro sums up my feelings about him.

The thing about Pistorius is that we don't know how fast he'd have been if he'd had legs. For all we know if he'd had 'em he might've never wanted to become a runner.

These Olympics are sorta weird though: We have a runner without legs and an almost blind archer!

My view on Pistorius is utterly illogical. I feel that so long as he's just appearing but not truly challenging for medals and finals it's fine, but if he were to win a medal I'm not sure I'd be okay with that.

I like Pistorius. Did anyone else the moment Grenadian Kiriani James swapped names with him and delcared it was an honour to race with him? Class act.

The sad thing with Pistorius is that he does have a slight advantage thanks to his blades. I hate to say it, but I can honestly see pushy parents having their kids limbs amputeted. Not to mention Ricco type despardo's. This worries me.

Does he? The science seems very confused on this point.

He himself said during an interview that the technology he uses has existed since the mid nineties or something; In any case, it's quite old. So his rethorical question was something along the lines of "If it has such an advantage, then why is the 400m not dominated by (pre-existing) amputees who all have access to this technology."

That being said

Pistorius can (and will) be discussed further here:

EDIT> I moved subsequent posts on Pistorius to the already existing thread. Please continue the conversation there.

Taoufik Makhloufi thrown out of the olympics because he didnt try in the 800:cool:

This is the guy who the bbc repeatedly accused of doping with no basis (even this morning they called him controversial) so it was so important that he could challenge for the final.

What a joke. I didnt see T Mart thrown out for doing the same thing in the road race.

Zarapowas win in 3000m steeplechase should entertain all cycling fans. Took the front from cm1. Put.on the gas szmyd style dropping everyone 1 by 1 over the first 2600 m until there were 4 left, then did 3 attacks in the last 400m each one over a jump and contador gap style, eventually cracking the last 3 and soloing in down the home straight.
