Comon Cav, man up and face your deamons (Greipel) tackle a racing program that includes the mighty German instead of hiding away and preventing him from racing the calendar he deserves. You are a whimp.

Behaviour off the Bike

Mark Cavendish is a young man with the whole world of cycle racing before him. When I was a young man the motto was"Be nice to people on the way up because you'll meet them on the way down!" Take a tip Mark.Put a gag on your mouth as it's only a short trip from the Penthouse to the S**thouse.

Hell yeah. I hate to see promising riders with intial successes become arrogant douchebags. I really dont like cavendish now...

Pro riders should realise they represent a team and a sport and they should act accordingly.

To put them in the same race as captains would be stupid! they would not collaborate at all. Surely Columbia is smart enough to give them both chances in different races..

And Greipel had a point. If you look at his performance this year, he should have been included in the M-SR team, if only as a second leader.

Columbia's got the problem of too many men with too much similar talent and no clear leader on the road to help them all chill out a little (Big George).

It is pretty clear that one of the two sprinters (or maybe both) will be riding for another team next season.

It was discouraging to read Cav explain how Greipel is not stong enough to be an effective member of the lead-out train.

I guess there will always be a team, or a couple of teams, that have an internal power struggle. The sport media likes to play those things up and then they take on a life of their own. Cest la Vis.

With Hincapie gone, Cavendish won't win a Spring classic ever again. He is obviously insecure about Greipel. It would be great to see them on different teams to see who is better. Maybe that is what scares Cavendish the most.

As a Brit I find myself caught between a rock and a hard place on this.

It is exactly the 'play fair, never mind who wins' attitude that defines Brits that means we dont win much.

So when someone with an UnBritish 'I dont care who I **** off as long as I am winning' attitude comes along - Brits love it, Cavendish, Murray, Clive Woodward/Jonners (as player). Everyone else hates the fact that the plucky loser Brits grew a pair and started winning.

On the other hand, you could be like Chris Hoy and win and still be a gent.

So... this recent tantrum does Cav no favours. But who would bet against him vs Greipel given the same leadout?

Either way, one of them will leave. Do we think Uncle Dave B has been chatting to Cav's inner chimp?

I do.

Why would that scare Cav more than anything!? Greipel is a way off being the second best sprinter in the world, maybe if he was in the same league as Farrar, Thor, Freire, Petacchi, Boonen et al he'd be feeling like he was getting in the way of Greipels success but as it stands - Andre wouldn't have finished off half of Cavs leadouts last year.

I'd be more concerned about what Theo Bos does over the next 12 months, I think he's going to be exciting next season if he doesn't get cocky again.

Agree with Winterfold in that the bulk of our successful sports people have an arrogance about them, but then when Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton and Mark Cavendish have achieved more than previous British athletes you tend to accept that it is likely that their reckless confidence, their temerity that takes an athletes talent that step further.

I must admit I did grimace when I read the Guardian article, and I don't think excusing Cav's colloquial grammar is justified. He was disrespectful, unprofessional and in a game like sprinting where form is everything - he currently doesn't have a leg to stand on. In saying that, I love it when these guys speak their minds, why the hell not - it gives us something to talk about other than Armstrong, EPO and bike porn

Greipel has all their numbers, except Freire who is too good for a leadout train

+1 pedaldancer

at least he's not a boring loser. I grew up on Brits being losers, it's not fun.

A young man, playing a game which demands a bit of arrogance, winning then shooting his gob off and making a tit of himself once in a while I can take.

Adding a bit of 'where was the publicity guy' randomness to sublime wins like MSR and Champs Elysees last year only adds to the package. If he was a corporate puppet it wouldn't be half as much fun.

Of course if he stops winning, then he will just be a rude loser, and we dont want that...
