Well if he had been dropped so easily, they shouldn't have bothered. He would have been dropped easily on the cipressa or poggio.

Could have been just going through a bad patch. Some of the riders who waited did try to go back up the road and rejoin the peloton but didnt make it. Having said that he did go out the back quite quickly so maybe Sky should have only left one man or something. Easy to say now though.

So in the tactic's meeting yesterday Sky decided that if Cav were dropped by 1:30 after 500 meters on Le Manie they would let the entire team wait for him instead of having some stay with EBH. Genius.

Did you watch it? Thats not quite how it unfolded.

Not sure what Eddy needs people for anyway - he gets a free ride in the peloton with Tommy to look after him.

I wonder if Gilbert really lied in the press conference haha!

Genuinely not sure what you're seeing from Gilbert riding in the bunch to make you so confident he can drop everyone and ride to the line for 8km. This must be your 3rd post of supreme confidence and quiet mocking of doubters. This sort of stuff normally follows delivery.

I said he looked good. Thats totally different from saying he can drop everyone and win easily:rolleyes:

They could have began with sending 1 or 2 guys back to him. If he by the top of the climb was in contention, they could have sent further 2 guys back to bring him up to the peloton.

Edvald would need someone like Hayman to bring him to position in the sprint. He's not very good at positioning himself. Löfkvist isn't exactly a prime leadout man.

Ok sure, but things happen. They sent 4 guys back when he was initially 15 seconds behind - the situation then developed quicker than they were able to adjust to (i.e. Cav bonked mega style, so the gap grew quickly). They didn't know at the time they'd end up 90 seconds behind, and I doubt they would have sent the men if they thought they would.

It was three at first which went down to one when it transpired that Cav was going to be a long way behind at the top, then they picked up the other two while chasing. Not sure where the other one appeared from, maybe he got dropped on the climb or got caught behind the crash although he could have been sent back.

You're posting in a tone of delight as if you just discovered he's going to destroy everyone - I'm just wondering why - did you expect him to get dropped by now?

Nope but he is obviously the leader of BMC today and has been riding near the front. That shows he has good form, totally different from what he said before the race.

Do we know how the second, now resigned, group got so big? Did BMC/Omega?Liqui really shell them on the flat? Was there a fall missed by cameras? The Quintero incident was right at the side of the road and shouldn't have split the field that much, but there were many more than this that left Cavendish & Co behind on La Marnie.
