And to think if you'd said Matt Goss to anyone a couple of years ago, they'd have thought of this...

Big Phil would rather win Luik 2 times than 1 time Ronde and one time Luik.

Think that says enough about how he rates San Remo ;) Even lower.

Shouldn't Cancellara have powered off as he according to the posts always does? :p

No, i repeatidly said I dont think Cancellara would because hes got bigger targets.

So, fail. Fact is you said Cancellara cant sprint and that Gilbert would always beat him in a sprint. turns out you were wrong. You also try to turn the tables about how Canc didnt win, when he doesnt need to, hes already won, whereas Gilbert, who by now could have had LBL Worlds and MSR, still only has GDL.

Canc didn't need to win?

I think he would've loved to win here. And Phil attacked in the last kilometers because he wasn't counting on beating Goss in the sprint.
Double wins that count all of a sudden? Boy, then why does he race Flanders and Roubaix instead of Luik and Lombardia?

You do know Phil is only 28 right. He'll have plenty of chances at all these races.

Counting the attacks, Phil tried more than Cancellara at this edition. He's not in super form, but he's on the good way for the next classics.

And I never said you did, but everyone is always like Cancellara would just power away if he's in a situation like that where as Phil would always fail. Yeah, right.

You don't really think Phil had this as his goal right? He also has bigger goals coming, just like Canc.

Stupid Polzato, always f*cking things up for us Belgians
Great win by Goss though

:D

I was honestly surprised to see him up there as his best result so far was a 33rd placing in Qatar final ranking.

For a puncheur it's not really hard to get in such a final of San Remo. It might be the hardest one to win, but it's also the easiest classic there is.

Glad I'm not Pozatto right now, he's going to get a lot of critique again.

lol yeah the guys at Sporza were pretty darn mad

Personally I'm really happy with LEOPARD TREK's performance, and especially Stuart O'Grady - IMO he proved himself again today as one of the world's best domestiques. I didn't expect Cancellara to be so high up there, and so active in the race. Maybe a little bit unfortunate Bennati didn't make the cut, but still good performance by him and Gerdemann as well.

Other than that hats off to FDJ - only for this race they'd deserve PT status! Offredo is really living up to the expectations and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.

I also agree with what someone said earlier how Goss' strength was that he could follow all the attacks, which by far not all sprinters can, so much deserved win!

Scarponi is another guy who was fantastic today, to finish 6th being in the Hushovd/Freire group! What a pity he wasn't in the first peloton... he might have won this

I think the anti-spoiler brigade has gone too far, the 'goss wins = cav to sky' thread is up at the top of the first page too, are you going to change the title there?

To be totally honest, I think the parcours for California this year is really good.

I just think the commentary will be embarrassingly sycophantic and oversell what the race can offer. This year it should offer some really good racing - but they'll try and sell it as being the equal to or better than the Giro, which always hurts the race's credibility in the eyes of many fans.

Never problem to beeing honest. We both can talk about everything. lol
Hope you won't get problems because of that.

That seems like a kind of overstatement by you again.
It is never wrong to support a race and promote it a little bit.
I mean, this is Phil and Paul.

Making reference to Phil and Paul overdoing things, is like keep on mentioning that Gaddaffi is a bad person.
I saw much, but these 2 guys are really unique. Can't see something similar here in Germany, Italy, France or elsewhere - not even in other sports. Unique !
And this is good. ;)

But I can't imagine them - not even Phil and Paul - considering the ToC bigger than Giro or equal to that.

Yes, I was watching Sporza too. The co commentator was really mad, kind of justified though Pozzato did nothing but ruin Gilbert's attempt.

I must admit I rarely every watch cycling in English commentary, so I can't really compare - but Ulli Jansch and Karsten Miegels are pretty cool too though :)

True, but on the other hand I think if it hadn't been Pozzato, it would have been someone else

Pozzato was nailed by the time we got to the sprint, he was fried.

Janschi und Migels are cool. For sure. Especially when they start calculating in hectic. :D
Menchov lost Giro....wahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sad that they added this useless clown called Leinauer, and even split the dreamteam
Poor Janschi always on his own now. Hope that will change again soon.
But no chance to reach Phil and Paul.
Perhaps Angermann comes close to them in some kind. But he was great and unique too.
I miss him painting pictures and his eye for all the beauty.

Did you watch on German ESP2 today ? Who was commenting ?

Goss has confirmed himself in the top echelon of riders in world cycling. Such a strong rider.

+1 Great ride by Goss Fantastic result. HTC'S tactic's worked well, put all the attention and pressure on Cav whilst leaving Goss pressure free to do his own thing or if they had all come back together to be up the front ready to help Cav. Well deserved win :)

I can imagine them saying it. I've heard them saying that it's fast becoming as important as any race bar the Tour de France.

Now, whether they actually consider the shilling that comes out of their mouths as the truth, that's another matter entirely.
