I do think the modern day program is truly operating with marginal gains.

To think the term only applies to the legal/grey side of matters would in my opinion be very naive.

And for all the marginal gains served to us, only few has been of own initiative/truly innovative.

The true marginal gain is more likely applied to the doping side of the matter?

For sure.

Comprehensiveness of doping is one thing thing that stratifies the current peloton. A reason that someone like Llyod Mondory can be taking EPO and be so far behind the top tier. (Of course, for all we know, he could have been on a full regime, but just illustrating a point, assume it was just EPO).

The CIRC witness that claimed to take 31 pills a day, that combination of medications is the marginal gain. Dosing enough testosterone and EPO in the perfect harmony is another. And it only gets more complex (and gain-ful) when more elements are added. Some bigger-than-marginal gains can be had from getting it exactly right.

Is Landa a marginal gain for Team Sky?

It depends how many hot dogs he can eat.

one can eat much more than that poor japanese guy... with genetically enhanced stomach that processes the food three times faster (called Enhanced Processing Organ)

Yeah.........or "White orcs on HGH" may be more appropriate...........particularly for one backrow player with an Italian sounding surname............

Campase?
I doubt Campase would appreciate being called a backrow player :) And I suspect the only drug he was on was ego (probably justified though).

No..........one of the white orcs

Oh, Campo is one of the few players I'd say that about - his main role was to run very fast and score tries, and he was so talented at it that he didn't really need any artificial help.............(plus, he'd have probably regarded PED use as an insult to his own genius).

Although rugby is my main sporting love, and I've played and coached (at a very low level), I'm under no illusions that it's at all clean................PED use is absolutely rife

The wasps website used to have a function where you saw an image of each current players year by year that he had been playing for them...my 'moment' with LOL camie when watching (in 2009) an old vid of the 1997 lions tour and recognising most of the team but not some skinny rake in the back row...

Yeah - it's probably the most obvious example, but the problem is endemic right across the piece.

Back in the early 90s it was a standing joke amongst the Welsh players that one of them was so clearly on the 'roids because he couldn't walk past a mirror or window without looking at himself and flexing :)

Not entirely surprising since Lotto Jumbo used
them in the Tour this year, but the UCI Equipment
Commission specifically okayed the use of 'no-pins'
clothing in relation to UCI rule 1.3.033.

The officials at the UCI World Masters Track Cycling
Championships currently on in Manchester sought
and received a ruling on the use of Nopinz skinsuits
which, according to some sources, can be worth 3 to
5 watts, a marginal but still significant gain on the track
where races are won by fractions of a second.

I was just poking around the site and found this:

I don't care what kind of performance benefit comes with it. I have no interest in putting that in my... mouth? Nostril? I don't even know.

EDIT: Salazar did it first, now everyone's doing it.

Yes, my friend, that is the 'Turbine' used
by our Froomey in his 2015 Tour victory.

Of course, maybe it would have helped if the one dimensional, lumbering gym monkeys had asked for LOL's advice on performance enhancement and marginal gains...............then they might still be in their home Wolrd Cup..... :D :D

Indeed, ha ha. I always think of Haskell as son of LOL - in more ways than one.

Team SKY may be close to announcing an exciting
partnership with AEROcaps for 2016 and beyond.

Consumers will have access to the same products
Froomey and Super-G have at their disposal. :)

Horse steroids FTW!!

Watched TdF'06 prologue on YouTube yesterday. Was psyched to hear 'young' Bradley W says he'd warm down after. Thought it was Sky invention

so how come Wiggo didn't win the 2006 tour then? I guess Kerrison is a liar too, surprise surprise.

Dear Watson, when we've exhausted all the possibilities, the last one, however improbable... is MARGINAL PILLOWS!
