When will he retire?
Presumably at the end of this year.
Or maybe he'll continue until he gets the record, which he's probably hoping will happen this year.

When will he retire?
I bet he is hoping his last race is ironically a TT in Nice this coming July. When will he retire?
I think there are a fair few other pro cyclists that are offering less to the sport than Cav. As long as he is relevant let's enjoy. When will he retire?

You have to go further back to see what @Netserk meaning is on their past posts in this thread.I totally didn't read that as a "Ugh... just retire already" comment, but as a genuine question. Especially since the post right above mentioned "His last year" (as a pro).

Well, it's not a weird thing to ask when a guy, who was originally planning to already be retired at this point, is actually going to retire.
While getting the record would obviously be cool, I'm not so sure about how likely it is, so hopefully this - prolonging his career - is simply a matter of wanting to have the chance to actually try, and finish his last Tour in a good way. Otherwise, it could get a bit awkward...
It's the year 2074...
"No... I'm not retired yet! I'm still looking for a team that'll allow me to do the Tour so I can get that record!"
"Granddad... you're almost 90!"
Time to retire. He detracts more from the sport than he adds to it.
It was an "Ugh", they have been clambering for Cav to retire since his year with SKY.I totally didn't read that as a "Ugh... just retire already" comment, but as a genuine question. Especially since the post right above mentioned "His last year" (as a pro).
Hopefully with all of his fingers.![]()
I just want the hobbit to return to the Shire.
It is weird in February after he just won a race.
In that case, there is no need to ask unless they are (word that can't be used), right?Even right after someone literally used the phrase "his last year"?
That being said, we don't know when Cav will actually hang up the bike, but being critical of a racer who is extending his career and still winning races seems odd at best.
deja vuI'm pretty sure it's been implicitly stated that he's extending his career by one year, to get one last proper chance to go for the record.
Again, you’re missing the context that’s right in front of your face. They’re not asking when “the hobbit” will retire so the hobbit can hangout with his family more, they’re asking so they know when they don’t have to see them anymore.Even right after someone literally used the phrase "his last year"?

I think that you are missing the point here...
We don't know that he will retire at the end of the year. How was that context right in front of my face, if I'd have had to go back several posts to spot it?
The immediate context was simply:
"It's his last year."
"When will he retire?"/"He's retiring?", a question that could be asked about any rider.
Look... I'm sorry that I don't keep a detailed list over which poster has weird antipaties towards which rider, so I'd be able to know from the immediate context when a question about a rider retiring is simple curiousity, and when it has hostile intents.
I answered the question about when Cavendish will actually hang up the bike:
At the end of this year.
What hidden point are you seeing.
We don't know that he will retire at the end of the year.
You are not seeing the point that the OP wants Cav to retire because he thinks that he sucks.
That’s fine if you don’t know the specific posts but you know the poster and how he posts for those he doesn’t care for. I told you that you need to go further back and read their past posts to know the context, you ignored it. That’s why I told you, so you can understand where everyone else is coming from and the context. Others told you about it and you continued to ignore it. The poster then gave you more proof of him not particularly liking the rider and you ignored it. They want Cavendish to retire, they wanted Cavendish to retire last year, they wanted Cavendish to retire in 2020, he wanted Cavendish to retire pretty much every year. All I was trying to tell you is the context so you know where everyone is coming from. How was that context right in front of my face, if I'd have had to go back several posts to spot it?

Right, but you didn’t go further back and thus missed the context that it was not in fact a simple question. That's kinda my point, isn't it?
You need to go further back.
So, when I read that initial question, I saw it as a simple question that any poster might ask about any rider.
Right, but you didn’t go further back and thus missed the context that it was not in fact a simple question.
No, but I expect you to read what multiple people told you and not ignore it . And when I informed you that you’re missing the context, you still chose to ignore it and say they’re just genuinely curious. And then I provide a quote for you and you’re tripling down on it.You only told me that I had to go further back after I'd already explained how I initially read that post... I read it the same way I would have read it from any poster, in any rider thread.
Are you expecting people to scroll several posts back every time they reply to a post, just in case there might be some hidden context?
