If they want Cav to get the Green jersey, they should use Boonen and Terstra to mop up a few of the intermediate sprints, otherwise it'll be Sagans jersey again for sure!

Hurts to even think that Boonen will be used in a train.

He's not that same sprinter who won his own Green Jersey, no, but he's worth more than being a train driver.

Not cool.

If you've got Boonen and Pettachi in your leadout, there's some sprinting experience in front of you!
Renshaw and Steegmans are also no newbies.
Not sure if it's best lead out in the pack, but sure it's most experienced one.

That would be a good tactic, but I'm afraid Sagan will be winning the green jersey for a while because he's such a versatile rider.

I don't even think Cavendish should go for the Green Jersey this year, unless it falls into his hands somehow. Just try to win 4-5 stages and prove he's the best sprinter in the peloton again. Sagan isn't really his competition, and spending much energy on the green jersey specifically would be wasteful imo.

Even being part of the train he could still try for his own chances too. Like in breaks on days that definitely won't end in a sprint or on the cobble stage.

you also have to take into account that he hasn't raced a full GT since the 2007 Tour, and last time he entered a GT was the 2011 Vuelta (where he left the race on stage 16).

I agree, unless OPQS can put all of the teams focus on him I don't think he has much of a chance getting into Green, although if Kittel has the same sort of year as he did last year I don't think Cav has a chance at contesting sprint finishes like he has done previously.

I would keep Petacchi as last lead out and Renshaw as second last. At HTC, Renshaw tended to be the second last lead out man with Goss being the last guy to lead Cav out.

Not sure what you're basing this on - you clearly didn't watch much of the HTC era. Goss was very very rarely used as a leadout for Cav. Renshaw was always the last man when he was there. Goss generally raced a separate schedule to Cavendish, where he raced as the lead sprinter himself. When they did race the Tour together, Goss either went in front of Renshaw, or followed Cav's wheel to stop other sprinters doing it. Essentially a trailer (as you've mentioned below with Boonen etc).

The idea of using Boonen (or Terpstra) to protect Cav's back wheel is a good one.

My team would be:
Kwiatkowski, Bakelants, Stybar, Terpstra, Martin, Boonen, Renshaw, Petacchi, Cav

My leadout order for the Tour would be Martin, Meersman, Trentin, Steegmans, Boonen, Petachhi, Renshaw. Not sure who I would select as the rouleur to chase down breaks at the moment.
Overkill.

Martin > Trentin > Steegmans > Petacchi > Renshaw > Cav is enough. Uran will want some assistance in the mountains and would you like to tell Boonen he's doing lead outs? Would love to be a fly on the wall for that...

Will Uran do the Tour though? I still believe Giro/Vuelta is the best option for him. Other than that I like those 6 for a Cav's train.

You're right, it seems that he won't now, which is strange because I thought he was bought because the sponsor (QuickStep) wanted a top 10 at the TdF.

If so, there will be plenty of stage hunting from OPQS this July. The guys I mentioned, along with Bakelandts, Stybar and Boonen would be a fun team to watch. Go for stages I say, let the climbers help Uran at the Giro! :D

Smart decision IMO to not go to Giro. Needs to be as fresh as possible to take on Kittel in the Tour.

Yeah I agree, it doesn't really matter what races he does for prep, his complete focus this year is that 1st stage of the Tour over here. He needs to be at his best to challenge Kittel and not doing the Giro is the correct choice.
