Overtaking Merckx would look great on his palmares for sure. He needs seven more stage wins to equal him...let's see if he can manage anymore this year. Fingers crossed.

You don't think that, for Cav, his first yellow jersey in the Tour is a big deal? It elevates this win above many others, even if it's not his biggest, and came after lots of people wanted to believe he was past it.

Exactly this. There's no doubt that Cav will cherish this much more than any of his other TdF stage wins apart from arguably his first, his 6th in '09, that stage in 2012 where he caught the breakaway with about 100m to go in rainbow or one of those which led to his green jersey in 2011, but at the end of the day, wearing the yellow jersey doesn't contribute much to someone's palmares, especially if they're anywhere near as successful as Cav
For Cav, yes. Who doesn't dream of wearing the yellow jersey as a kid?

He beat Kittel. While he's rubbish at climbing he survives it better than Kittel does and it takes less out of him. DD will be desperate to have him racing on the Champs Elysees.carolina said:

This. Theoretically, with all the track stuff he's done, he should be capable of a better sprint, but with a lot less endurance. I suspect Cav was helped massively by the slow pace of the peloton in the final 25km, which usually would favour Kittel over other sprinters.

An amazing turnaround from Cav's capitulation at the national championship. Very happy for him. In an era of sporting robots it's great to have a top sportsman who is always himself, warts and all.
