Cav gave the poor Korean kid a sawdust sandwich!! Ouch. People taking laps out of the Manx. Holding your line is overrated

That sounds like something even his own worst detractors after the Haussler Tour de Suisse crash would have felt hyperbolic about claiming. So Viviani is out of the gold medal?
No, he's hurt but riding. 3rd in the last sprint
The poor Korean got stretchered off on oxygen though.
Looked on purpose from Cav, he should be disqualified or at the very least get a big penalty.

Check the replay here, he clearly looked behind before making the move. Whats even funnier is the BBC immediately declared that Cav's move was unintentional. What a load of shite.

Having looked at the footage again, I don't think it's so clear cut. Cav is above and looking to drop back in. The Korean rider moves up the bank expecting Cav to drop down in front of him, but Cav moves down while the Korean is already moving up. The frame is quite small and shows the action in quite a small frame, but looking at the riders in relation to the blue line, the Korean makes quite a pronounced swing up the bank as Cav drops down. It looks more 50/50.

Not trying to exonerate Cav, but watch the blue line in the footage.

Ran down the bank without looking and broadsided the Korean, who brought the Aussie and Viviani down. Hope he's OK. Bad riding by Cav.

Without looking? He looked at the Korean rider twice, the last time immediately before coming down and taking out the Korean's front wheel. This is a total farce.

I've got a lot of time for Cavendish but that looked pretty indefensible. He looked over twice before doing it. If it was premeditated then he is a genius. An evil genius. Hope the Korean lad recovers. Cavendish on for silver I reckon.

That looks at best like a complete brain fart. How do you look down see someone and then cut across the track at a diagonal. Glad to read Viviani is up and riding. It would be awful to have 4 years down the drain because of something like this. The only worse thing is if Cav benefits from it.

He was most likely looking at Viviani, not the Korean, and dived down to attack (the race not the Korean). Doing that on purpose would be risking a crash himself. But if he didn't do it on purpose, it was very very careless, especially for someone so experienced

Okay just rewatched it. He takes one look at Viviani. Then one at the Korean who is going up. Then dives down, not expecting the Korean to get in the way, a bit like Viviani did to Boudat a few laps later

The aero nose wins it, deserved it after what happened in the race itself. And really happy for him, he was one of the happiest gold medalists I've seen on the track so far (and I remember, I'm sure there were loads others, but you could see how much it meant to him)

Let's put it this way. Do you think Cavendish would resort to taking someone out like that on purpose with hundreds of cameras on him? Even the Veelers and Gerrans crashes, it's Cav being too aggressive to fight for position, but it's not like his aim was to take them out, so to suggest he tried to crash Viviani out is ridiculous

Having watched it again, I tend to agree. In horse racing terms it was careless rather than dangerous riding. And Yes Elia did nearly take out Boudet the same way.

Well done to Viviani, good winner although Hansen was the strongest rider.

Apparently, Cavendish said off-mic but not off-mic “they’d be straight on for Brad, wouldn’t they?” when kept waiting for his interview by the BBC. Surprised he even does them, given his pathological hatred of fame.

But the Korean rider moved up, after Cav looked at him for the last time. It wasn't his fault, and it was Cav's, but it self-evidently was not deliberate, unless Cav can see into the future.

Poor Park.

Edited for unnecessary aggression.

I don't think it was intentional from Cav, just a clumsy mistake. He takes a look behind and probably expected the Korean to move down the bank but of course he should have looked again when moving back down. Far too many people going OTT saying it was deliberate, he could have wiped himself out with that move and ended his own medal chances.

I can't really imagine someone would cause a crash on purpose because it just wouldn't make any sense. But I also can't explain why he did make this mistake. He is looking at the Korean and makes the turn directly afterwards. You can't say he didn't see the other rider so what on earth was he thinking.
