Why didn't you include his Tour de France stage wins and Green Jerseys there?

Cavendish is well on his way to surpass those palmares, although I don't think he'll ever finish in the top10 of the Tour. :D

As a sprinter maybe, but I don't think he will surpass the overall palmares.

I really just want to know what other riders are mean to their families. There must be some real juicy tales in the pro peloton. Did Tony Martin ever forget his sister's birthday? Maybe Txurruka hates his mother's cooking! Just imagine the possibilities.

Nope, just waiting for you to post more of your bigotry about Americans. Go ahead, dude. We know you want to.

Bigotry? That's a bit of a stretch.

I think you should go and stroke your ***** it's looking cold. Warm it up a little.

Classy. Just what we have come to expect from Chavendish homers.

Hey lighten up BroDeal, just go and run yourself a hot bath and relax.

The one who likes to claim others are Bigots rants about 'homers'!

Hey I've just got to go and get some chish and fips. Let's hope the men in white coats don't nab me I'm obviously a danger to others (BroDeal).

I hope you'll have thought of something funny for when I get back.

Cheers Norman (Bates)

Not really his fault if some of his fans are idiots though.

No, this is true. But it's a problem any successful athlete will have, especially when they divide the audience as much as someone like Cavendish does. People go from being ambivalent about somebody to actively wanting to see them beaten to shut up the incessant fanboying.

I remember this from when Lewis Hamilton hit the scene in F1, but it goes for practically any young phenom in any sport. I don't really mind Lewis Hamilton, but the army of fans he had who would hypocritically complain at other drivers "sticking their noses in the championship" by racing with him, yet would defend him as "the only real racer", who would cry conspiracy whenever he got punished, would search for excuses every time somebody else just happened to be better (or at least have the better car) on the day, who would pore over interviews by Massa, Alonso, Kubica or Räikkönen just looking for something they could construe as evidence of collusion against Hamilton, who would cry that Hamilton wasn't given his original points back after he was caught lying to the stewards about an incident in order to defraud a competitor out of points so that he could get an extra one... those really got up a lot of people's noses, and meant a lot of people who had been neutral found themselves wanting to see him get beaten to shut those people up; but then these people then became almost indistinguishable from the trolls, wind up merchants and "haters".

At least the pro-Cav contingent don't have the race card to play, I guess.

Homer - American slang. Suggestive of a crooked or biased referee who gives judgments in favour of the home team. A "Cavendish homer" = "somebody whose viewpoint is openly biased in favour of Mark Cavendish".

I don't think BroDeal was making a direct homophobic slur.

This dude is not smart enough to figure out what a homer is. Best to let him make up his own meaning to in an attempt to escuse his bigotry against Americans.

I thought he meant the guy from the Simpsons.

It's slang. Of course people outside that country don't know what it means some of the time, stop making such an effort to be offensive.

If you think that saying Americans hate Cav because they prefer Farrar is actually bigotry, and you aren't just trolling, then I have no idea what to say to you. It's perfectly natural to support home athletes. He might have been wrong, but it's not bigoted.

You're both embarrassing yourselves.

Libetine, are you suggesting that the 'Pro-Cavendish' camp are likely to bash peoples heads in and play the race card?

Do you also think it's a problem for Cav that his fanbase are as you think they are?

Your eloquent ramblings are often nowt more than that!

HOMER:

1) A simple minded person, never cognizant of the world around them; MORON. "Homers" typically have "dumb luck." One would typically refer to someone as a "Homer" when they have done or said something that is totally moronic. (From a main character in the US animated series The Simpsons.)

2) An apologist, fanatic, and staunch defender with kamikaze-like loyalty. Simply put, a homer is fan of a team who is so ardently attached, she's lost all objectivity. She'll defend anything and everything her team does, and whe'll act on every opportunity to flame or disrespect rivals.

Funny enough, both definitions fit hmsgenoa to a T.

1) He was disrespectful, yes. He wasn't stupid, though. All his posts and slightly odd letters were well written and had a clear logic, even if his interpretation of the facts was different to yours.

2) You've been clashing over one event that happened 2 years ago. You have no idea what else he thinks of Cav, bar that one incident, because frankly, the two of you have just been trading insults after a few posts on the Cav-Haussler incident.

It's not American slang. It's Internet slang. It's been around on forums for a long time. Of course it comes as no surprise that the guy who posts, "Most of the negative comments about Cav come from Americans who cannot bear to watch nearly man Tyler Farrar come 2nd again," would come up with his own whack theory, perhaps based on his own inadequacies, about what it means instead of googling it.

I don't see why anyone should back down in the face of this hmsgenoa character. From the beginning he has attacked everyone who doesn't care for his beloved Cav. If you let him succeed with his wild accusations about everyone who doesn't agree with him then it invites more of the same.

My, you have been busy!

Christ almighty, the way you are carrying on you'd think I was a Bond villain who was going to take over the planet!

Just as I was starting to warm to your humour!

Never seen or heard anyone using it.

You're not doing great on the wild accusations front yourself - as soon as someone starts waving the "racer" card (which you should probably be prepared for some fool to do - it's a cycling forum, after all), you accuse them of being mentally unstable.

That's just out of line. Mental illness isn't some kind of joke, and if he was mentally ill, then bringing it up would have been hugely offensive.

Yes, Genoa went way beyond what was necessary. Strange how he didn't have a problem with my posting a view on it, since all I race are commuters, riding friends and myself. But you're being just as bad - do you think that people should just let you go around calling others mentally ill, and back down once you do?

Did you hear the one about Roger Hammond?

Apparently he used to play Scalextric with his sister, he'd ask her to be brave and stick her tongue between the tracks, The moment she did it he'd pull the trigger and electrify her!

(Hey BroDeal my tongue is in my cheek - don't go overboard!)
