Haven't heard much from the bashers that are hoping Mateo would suck this Vuelta. Seemed pretty healthy today with serious riders sitting in his wake. Jonas liked the easy day, too.
Here's a message from a team director bashing and myself as a fellow basher find meddling, meltdown, not my bottle Matteo to be an absolute disgrace. I only hope that the same trash talking BS that blew his Tour derails his Vuelta can't say enough bad things about the busybody ..Thanks Mr. Impy!

I couldn't agree more. He's all talk without the size to back it up and thats embarassing at a certain point, more like a constant stand-up comedian these days. Overrated AF.

Super, Super, Super complicated issues surrounding the interplay at Vuelta , teams, riders, families and friends of all. I find it irresponsible and stupid to have a ride by opinion about something so, so intricate and sensitive. Easy for juggling Jordy to chime in about riders and team trashing their race, all their training and dedication because he thinks it's a good idea.
As a pro racer, Matteo of anyone should know what some of those riders and staff have put into peaking for Vuelta, Grand Tour..he might take it lightly, oh there will be other chances, go home, quit..
punk move in my opinion.
Had he framed it as the crushing heartbreak of dropping your dreams, trashing all your training, money spent with everything associated with a grand tour, that might make it easier, but to tell fellow bike racers to hang it up so so, too cavalier is bad form for me.. Really pisses me off..obviously.

Nothing wrong but we (cycling fans) were asking if he could lead Visma in a GT. After seeing his performances, I think the answer is no.
He may have a slow progression. Almeida has been improving every year. He hasn't won a GT yet either; he's been improving year after year. A second place this year would be his best result. Fifth, fourth, third...

Jorgenson has regressed from his eighth-place in last year's Tour. But it could be a bad year.

Jorgenson has also won in one-week race: two Paris-Nice and one classic. These are similar victories to those of Ayuso and Almeida, less, but he has also led less races than them.

I still think Matteo can lead a GT, the 2024 Tour proved he can be consistent for three weeks in a hard race. Don't know if he enjoys it, but can't find a reason why he shouldn't be able to compete against a field like this year's giro. Sure he suffers on steep gradients - he's 70 kg /1.90 m - but he excel in classic-like stages and on long steady climbs. If Vinge next year dosen't settle for the Giro he should try it as coleader with Cian.

It could be. Most likely the underperfromance is mostly that he's not in superb shape after also doing the Tour. But you can't just go and lose 4 mintues on a single 40 minute climb, that's very problematic.

He might be a threat in a weak Giro, especially if it's bad weather, but otherwise no.

He won a couple of stage races so at minimum he can continue with that, that is not that bad either. Stage wins at GTs are reality and likely some one day events are at play. Winning a GT, for that i guess he would need to make a leap, considering the competition involved.

Got to admit, as a huge Matteo fan, this is disappointing. Giving in to the protestors would set a horrible precedent.

I only know the problems, no real solutions.
The final week of the race is final week for teams and riders, but also final week for protesters, and final opportunities to piggyback their agenda on live TV sports broadcast.
Gotta think they are desperate to achieve their goals also, for you, me, riders, teams, families it's a bike race, for protesters it's convenient, free opportunity to publicize their cause, and if race is disrupted, ruined, someone is hurt or killed by their arbitrary acts of terror, it's just cost of doing business.
I thought I saw Movistar rider get up and give chase to clown that decked him. I hope he or someone else caught the guy. I really hope he doesn't try to jump out of the police car on the ride back to the station..
Wink wink
. Something really bad can happen for sure.

I used to be annoyed with Jorgenson in the Tour but I'm starting to respect him now.
He has a backbone and is not afraid to say what the majority is also thinking.
People who express their opinion and stand out from the crowd are often hated.

I think he had a really hard tour, he started out great and then got sick. I think he really suffered for a few days. He was able to get through it and come back to some extent but that doesn't make for good preparation for the Vuelta. I think he's just starting to run out of gas.

I've been out of touch travelling but have to agree that, just because someone pushes a microphone your way your opinions don't need to spill out. Impey's response is completely out of deflection and he is all that several others have said about him. Matteo's a jock and jocks don't make good politicians even if their opinions make sense. Flash back to Quinn Simmons, Mr. Jorgenson.

Not everyone for sure but outstanding athletes like Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Jack Kemp, Steve Largent to name a few, good at sports and kept a cool head when statesmanship was required..

If i remember reading correctly somebody made private communication public. So IMHO Matteo can't be blamed for sharing his political views publicly. Note that that is not a crime, just saying, as some seem to hold it against him.

Bottom line he didn't do it, somebody else did it by sharing private correspondence publicly.

They kept a cool head while playing sports and staying in their lane.
The first two would occasionally betray the leather-helmet syndrome of wear and tear in their later profession...
