Disappointing.Completely skipping the cobbles this year, and also no Paris-Nice. If Visma are trying to prevent him from getting big results, they've come up with a very suitable program.

Dodged some bullets! Guy will get an elite measurement at Strade Bianchi, race fits him like a glove, we will see.4th and 2nd in his first two races of the season

Do you think Cycling News and the internet detractors have a story about what is going right at Visma.
I hope Matteo can deliver something.
Brennan and Laporte are in good form..Ben Tulett showing some signs.. not winning yet but racing likes he thinks he can.
He raced really well, doesn't have much for a sustained punch ,don't know if megawatts for @90-180 seconds is his thing, but he really couldn't go with top 3.Jorgenson delivered in this relative environment.
It doesn't mean they don't expect him to train like a donkey.
If Jonas can't rule Paris-Nice there should be some reckoning.
It's early and they're both competing against guys racing seriously for a month. Except for Teddy...he just woke up.He raced really well, doesn't have much for a sustained punch ,don't know if megawatts for @90-180 seconds is his thing, but he really couldn't go with top 3.
Pogacar gave tons of praise to Jan Christen for racing like a mad man, Able to jump around with crazy energy and speed, Jorgenson couldn't keep his wheel at all. Wout was a bit stale also but overall Visma has some bright spots.
That holds some water, It is early ..Tadej is different I guess and Del Toro did a sketchy UAE tour, Seixus did Volta, it's certainly looking like Visma is improving overall, all eyes now on Vingegaard..It's early and they're both competing against guys racing seriously for a month. His problem is definitely not just his explosiveness. He also doesn't have the engine to beat the big boys in monuments and mountain stages.Matteo's goal for the season is to cross the finish line first. His problem when it comes to winning monuments and stages is that he's got no explosiveness to win a bunch sprint, and isn't a strong enough climber to just ride away from the best in the world. His only real chance is to make a clever attack from the lead group at the right moment.
Unfortunately for him I don't think many underrate him enough to give him much leash, and he's a bit too easy to draft. He would need to be in a situation where the presence of a Wout or Brennan freezes rivals.Matteo's goal for the season is to cross the finish line first. He'll need to train the sprinting but that ship may have sailed years ago. Speed doesn't show up in mature athletes as much as they'd hope. He is a strong enough climber to ride away from many: watch the Isola 2000 stage of the Tour. Tadej caught him but no one else did and he'd put in many stages in the first 2.5 weeks working for Jonas before that. He is a diesel, though. That, and JV is thin enough he may not get the chances he'd want (hopefully he will).Matteo's goal for the season is to cross the finish line first. He looked pretty good today responding to the late attacks in the hills with Del Toro. Considering this is early racing for him it bodes well for what is ahead. Yes. And then JV took him to camp and taught him to ride in front of Jonas. His projected schedule is heavy classics and Tour Suisse before the Tour. He's proven he can win 1 week stage races and be competitive deep into a GT.I hope it bodes well for what’s ahead but will also know his track record is to
Produce some of his best performances in March, as demonstrated at PN the previous 2 yrs.

Grabbed by the neck - Movistar rider creates altercation with Matteo Jorgenson after Tirreno-Adriatico finale

That one finish when he died at the line.....at least it wasn't for the overall. He definitely didn't look weaker as the race went on.Love the attacking spirit! Missed out on 2nd by one second…
If his form continues there will likely be more, not less competitors that want to express their feelings. He is, after all; the big defender of a much smaller GT winner. The increase of disrespect in the pack has lots of origins but pressure on riders is foremost, IMO. That Matteo can win one week races regularly no doubt grinds on those trying to get to the next step and fight in the pack to get there.Jorgenson is the type of guy that really gets in people's nerves.![]()
