so however ridiculous or unfair the mods instruction you would be eager to

comply?.................atta boy!

Yes, if told to back off I would comply.

And of I felt there was some unfairness then I would probably show up here and highlight the unfairness. That's what this thread is for.

thanks!

thanks! from your helpful replies i can see where i erred.............even though
i still see being banned was a grave injustice

but like i note it's but a forum

and to those with less helpful replies.............i'm gone into the great wide yonder.............i'm sure you will remain untroubled endlessly paraphasing
and repeating the same tired jokes

i bid you all a fond farewell

Is this your final farewell, or should we expect a couple more of those?

yes! and if i was instructed by mods to follow instruction equally ridiculous
that did not apply to other members again i would do likewise

i expect most other members would also refuse to comply in such cirmcumstance

remember this issue should never have arisen if mods had applied common sense

As an authority on ignoring mods and getting banned, I think I can safely say that the mods are just people like you and me. You got caught up in what you were doing, and they got caught up in telling you not to and then banning you for it. Only when they get caught up, they have more power.

I say, lick your wounds and move on. If this is the first time you've gotten banned for something you didn't think you deserved to be banned for, you have been playing it too safe. As the guy who first took me mountain biking said on our first ride, right before going a$$ up and landed on his head, "If you ain't crashin', you ain't ridin' hard enough."

EDIT: In most instances, I deserved to be banned for what I was banned for...and if I'm being honest, I have many times posted things I knew I would be banned for, and did it anyway. It's kinda' my thing.

You don't get banned for admitting to things in the past. That's what we got SOL for ;)

How do you know that what he has admitted to wasn't more than 8 years ago :p

The issue that ebandit failed to address in his own mind is that he had absolutely no idea what conversations were occurring between the moderators, what courses of action were being undertaken, or indeed who had lodged a complaint about "hoggie" or what the specifics of the complaint actually were. Because all that information is private.

If any member raises a concern about a post, moderators will take those concerns on board and act accordingly. They might or might not than discuss the issue amongst themselves. Sometimes they will PM the poster to discuss the issue at greater length than the small comment on the edited post. But they will not discuss the specifics of the complaint, which is a personal communication to the mods.

A "normal" poster when asked by a moderator to refrain would comply with that request, and the poster also understands that to defy a moderation has consequences. ebandit was in no doubt from our very first communication that he would face consequences if he chose to defy the moderation. Knowing all this full well he then defied the moderation and stated both in private and in public he would do so.

Guess what happens when a poster says to the administrator "I refuse to accept moderation I am going to do whatever I want" #unconstitutional #witchhunt

And here I thought as long as the offending posts were only removed to hide the evidence.

Private to those who keep it private, public or semi-public to those who are leaked info.

Only applies to regular forum member posts, not moderator posts, the exception to the rule. You have some reading to do in the moderator thread (that we can't see, unless they have been removed)

1) If you are talking about ebandit upthread, he opened that door all on his lonesome. As to other posters, I have had several PM discussions and not mentioned them anywhere or that I have even HAD a PM. Likewise I have never discussed the actual contents of flagged posts.

2) Are you suggesting the moderators should not discuss conversations, private or otherwise, amongst themselves? How could they possibly decide on a course of action? The mods do singular actions like delete a post or edit out an insult, but they also collectively make decisions.

You do also realise that mods, like people in various walks of life, are able to distinguish between their roles as mods and posters? Similar to lawyers who know and discuss all kinds of stuff in judges chambers but never in the courtroom?

I listed no one, yet you make assumptions on that, why? I am not saying you have done something in regards to leaking privacy but telling you that that is one way some know more than others.

Again, where did I say moderators do or do not discuss things amongst themselves? You also state its a collective yet some of your colleagues state otherwise, yes in the forum. Hence why I always say you (you as in any forum member) should read more.

You do also realise that mods, like people in various walks of life, are able to distinguish between their roles as mods and posters? Similar to lawyers who know and discuss all kinds of stuff in judges chambers but never in the courtroom?

Your statement is so true. They can also be corrupt, backstabbers and out to push their own agenda's no matter how trivial. Not saying they are, do, will or that you are, but just like lawyers judges there is still the possibility as them being human and all. Again, go read the moderator thread that regular non-mods have, you maybe enlightened, again assuming its has not been removed.

It's in the rule book under Section "Most obvious thing on the entire freaking forum"
Subsection "You seriously cannot have known this because the Mods obviously did"
Sub-subsection "Seriously dude?"

Of course.. http://www.podilates.gr.

It is a cycling forum and a place where most of cycling groups publish announcements about new cycling events etc.

I believe that it can work to any forum.. the first period of time is a little confusing but then everything works by itself.

. . .

Do you remember usenet? I do, quite clearly. There used to be some really good forums on usenet. And, usenet runs quite the same as the system you describe - basically it is an anarchy, with the loudest and most insistent voices carrying over all. It worked when most of the members wanted it to work - and when they worked at moderating each other. But ultimately it failed. Oh, it is still out there somewhere. You can still find rec.bicycles.misc and rec.bicycles.tech out there somewhere. But the last couple of times I wandered over to rec.bicycles.misc - it was a total mess, completely useless for any real discussion - with no posts of any value for YEARS. I think rec.bicycles.tech still has enough real followers they can keep it more under control. Idk - haven't visited in years - as it wasn't worth the effort last time I looked.

You will find very few unmoderated forums, and there is a reason for this. It ain't about control.

Depreciating how mods are allowed to cross post other forums and not the forum members, which leads to posters reading other forums and not CN. Naughty naughty.

Depreciating boomcie's 3 month ban! If the toilet paper thread hadn't been closed he wouldn't have felt obliged to argue with the mods. So this is the moderation team's fault! I suggest we ban them.

Also depreciate it. The ban was justified but the situation was clearly created by the mods acting in a less-than-clever manner with regards to a thread closure.
