i did not see the offending post, but if the poster used words in a manner that bash or denigrate in an insulting way a group of people - be it a nation/tribe or a race - the exact meaning of the word 'racism' is not important...i lived in many different cultures and countries and speak their languages - they all attach slightly different meaning to the word 'racism'.

as to the length of vacation for such, i dont know, except it should be stern enough if the slur was intentional as opposed to a slip of tongue...

It was a clear infraction, no question about it-all full of invective about nation-states and their cowardly inhabitants and definitely designed with malice aforethought. In fact, it had me wondering whether GH wanted to get banned intentionally.

Galic Ho went way over the top and his month in the sinbin is not disputed but this has nothing to do with racism.

Some idiot the other week accused me too for being a racist. Those kind of accusations are not mild and should be handled with care. You just cant say someone is a racist/making racist remarks or do you have info on Galic Ho being a black man with chinese roots?

Sorry but... no. The entire concept of race doesn't make any sense. You could say there are 3, I say there are much more. Many say there aren't any. The term "race" maybe was making some sense in the xix century, but now it doesn't.

I said dipsticks who do that are dipsticks (and supplied the missing link, so the focus was on providing information, not just telling someone off) and got a warning (and ban threatened) for "insulting another poster".

Please confirm the same warning for the following posts - where "idiot" is used, a harsher (IMO) variant of "dispstick":

The first two examples are likely not been sanctioned, because the first isn't directed to another user and the second is directed to unknown people. But insulting other members is forbidden and if sometimes posts escapes from our radars it's because we are not everywhere. That said, I'm pretty much sure the greater part of the posts you linked resulted in warnings.

I didn't see the post(I was one of the posters having log in problems) but I'm not in the least bit surprised by what has happened if what is said in the previous posts is true. GH is constantly bringing threads along nationalist lines and I don't know what his problem with the Irish is, but this isn't first time he has a go at us. Not just myself, but he seems to be having him out with many other Irish posters on the forum in the past as well.

I just find the length of the bans inconsistent when judged with others with airstream's one being a prime example.

I can't wait till Worlds 2013! We need a poll for the number of bans that week with this new found sensitivity. Will there be retroactive bans if anyone references past Worlds threads? Or will this new found sensitivity be forgotten by then?

Well I think you are exaggerating somewhat though Galic Ho is rather intemperate and gets rather fired up I don't see much racism going on. Galic Ho's problem is making no allowance for the fact there are [b[thin-skinned, childish people[/b] on the interwebs. If anything Galic Ho could be banned for lack of civil discourse. Anyway the same people who term Galic Ho "disgusting" go about telling other forumites their posts are full of s*** with no consequences. Why? well probably because no-one bothers to cry to the mods.

There is the problem right there. Too many people need to cowboy up and not take what they read on a forum too seriously. GH's abrasive posting is hilarious.

That was no "exchange" of PM, it was a single PM, that was a reaction about a post in a thread (it didn't come totally out of the blue, the post in question was over the line and got sanctioned, but that's no justification).
It was absolutely unacceptable. Almost on the edge of a permanent ban.

Now, I'll take the chance to give an useful (hopefully) advice to y'all. Insulting via PM is not allowed and must be reported just like regular posts. Especially because otherwise we can't see them at all.
So please make sure not to fall into temptation and insult someone via PM thinking you are safe (I'm not adressing this to you, it's something general)

Like Netserk said, it is baiting, so it's not allowed. Ofc it's not the same as insulting and does not deserve 6 months of ban...
