First of all I haven't seen Airstream's post in that thread. Nonetheless I am talking about the post he got banned for, where he criticised the classics and it was considered trolling by the mods to warrant him a month ban. Yet Galic Ho for his attack on a country gets him a month as well. Now please tell me how on earth these two offenses(airstream's post wasn't even trolling in the first place and I don't how someone can come to that conclusion) are considered to be of the same level to get the exact same length in ban.

i will take this further...yesterday cavendash was banned for 6 months for insulting a member in pm

yet? gallicH only received a single months ban for insulting a national group

Pedro you were quoted because ebandit did not accurately quote me, which directly led to your response....two wrongs don't make a right. It was me that heavily edited the offending post by galic ho as well as the several by airstream, I identified both sets of comments as racist. However as has been said in the airstream circumstance, and also here by Eshnar, this issue needs to be treated with kid gloves. I chose not to ban airstream (I think correctly), Eshnar quite correctly banned galic ho. Which brings us to the severity of the ban, and gooners question.

My response stands regardless. There is a lack of consistency.

As I eluded to in a previous post certain groups of people are more fair game ( for a better turn of phrase) then others. If what was posted had been related to skin colour he would be gone for good.

The cruz of the matter is that you are equating trolling and racism at the same level. And God help you if you say you are doing research.

Is it the first time you notice that there are insults that are heavier than others?
There are people who call other people "idiots"... those are insults, and rules forbid them, but it's not like we ban everyone who use that word. Most of the times it will be just a warning. There are people who insult and people who insult more. Same goes for racism, for trolling, for going OT and for every kind of infraction there is.

If you read Galic's post, you already know what is not acceptable. What IS acceptable (with moderation), and accepted already (again, we did not change a thing in the rules) is a tongue-in-cheek comment here and there.

While Im willing to interpret the "get a beep life you beep beep", and something about "fanny"- which has a differnet meaning depending on what side of the Atlantic one is on, stuff as friendly advice, what hurts my feelings is getting put in the same category as the hog. As funny as he can be, I had hoped my cynical, comparative approach to the discussion, which tried to place the contemporary crisis in historical perspective, of doping and human behaviour, offered more to the discussion than blatant bating and stuff like -the dawg uses bus lighting to hide injection marks

A perfect example was in the jv thread today where a spat broke out when one member used racial overtones and others took offense.

Is the first poster a racist? He vociferously defended himself, which did not alter the fact the overtones and allusions were there. Result is the post and responses are deleted, the poster gets a PM from me suggesting they think a bit more carefully about it in future.

It is ridiculous to refer to the Irish as a "race." If we're going to call the Irish a race, we might as well start calling Liverpudlians, Bostonians, and Quebecois each distinct races. That's nuts.

The only meaningful racial differences are only relevant (generally) to medicine, genetics, and appearance. Racial insults are thus stupid and unacceptable.

Cultural differences, however, are real. Why not discuss them?

I'm at least one third potato eater (from each side) and the only Guinnesses I've ever had have tasted like absolute swill. But they're not half as bad as that Fosters crud--that stuff makes the worst imaginable bodily secretion appear inviting. And the Poles, Czechs, and Germans can make effing excellent brew. That's culture. And if we can't insult a culture that drinks something that tastes worse than urine, then there's something wrong here.

You'll need to PM that to me so I can see what they had to say. Skyshbags have pretty thin skins. I honestly think this forum is pretty lightweight and a bit of complaining/trolling gets things derailed with threats of bans. Not that I mind entirely, at least we have some troll control, which is more than can be said of other forums.

But the Skyshbags are a pretty sensitive lot. I think we might have tapped into friends/relatives of riders
