Okay, I'm slightly confused. Netserk has suspended himself for the pic he posted, but he is posting, just under a "banned" status (or only posting in this thread)?

And he says he is banned until someone else bans him, who is that? Benson?

So is he now just waiting for someone else to ban him, or taking a voluntary vacation for that pic. And for how long?

You are pushing an open door with me if you say taxus is a massive troll who's contribution to the forum is marginally greater than that of the adverts at the bottom of the page. And I can't think of more than 2 or 3 posters who would disagree.

Yeah, the pic was ott, as I said. I have no idea what pushing an open door means, but Taxus' trolling was getting way out of hand -again, polluting many threads with language that was barely readable.

Apparently, a moderator can post while under a Banned status.

I think he is waiting for someone with enough permissions (that'd be Benson) to perma ban him, since other mods can't.

nope, he is not banned at all. Special users (such as mods or admins) cannot be banned in this software. He just changed his title from Administrator to Banned and removed his avatar and signature.
Dan is the only one who can ban him, since he's the only one who can actually remove the Admin status.

I missed it as well, from what I can gather Netserk posted some scat and decided he should be banned because of it, so he banned himself, however it turns out only Danny B can ban a mod so he is showing as being banned but he can still post which he has been doing but then deleting for some reason.

you see, this is the crux and the folly of the moderating matter...
not every question, doubt, joke (well intended, in good/bad taste or not), poke, hint, jab/bait/flame (real or perceived)...not every one of those deserves an automatic response as you guy-mods have been doing ( i mean you fellas as opposed to susan who was and is very wise in the regard).

the invariable and the very real thing about the internet is - it is very variable and unreal.

i mean unreal in the physical sense of communicating to someone in person and variable as ANY statement in the interwebz has many more interpretations than the one would be left with after a personal face-to-face communication.

the long stoy short, any poster, a mod included, can't tell with 100% certainty if any given post, particularly those challenging a reader's sense of accepted (or the forum) rules and ethics, was the result of insufficient subject matter knowledge, or an evil intent or simply an unintended random reaction.

thus a mod should think twice before entertaining a response...because a follow up isn't always going to be what the mod would enjoy dealing with.

IMHO, if netserk was out of line more than other mods (not speaking of the specific latest case coz i haven't been at the scene), that's where he and dan should look PARTICULARLY.

What about for insulting another poster (don't tell me posting a picture of **** in response to another poster isn't a negative post towards them)

What about for ignoring a mod warning to leave Taxus alone? I know quite a lot of bans handed out for that.

Well it wasn't just the ****, unpleasant as that is, but a picture of an animal in the act of squirting it out.

And I doubt netserk decided voluntarily to ban hisself because after my report yesterday another mod pmd me to say he was going to raise hell with netserk for it.

And as has been posted above, its not really a ban if you continue to post.

Cool got **** to do with it. Nothing wrong with being cool. But its different if someone wants to be a moderator and continue to delete peoples posts liberally and ban them.

Also to his credit he has always maintained his posting should be judged as a poster not a mod, so he is taking the hit voluntarily.

As to your other observations to Netserks capacity as a mod, perhaps take it up with Daniel rather than here?

What he isn't banned? WTF? A lot if not most of the bans in this forums history are for stuff that was far lighter than what netserk did.

So moderators really are allowed to post absolutely anything they want, break the forum rules anytime they want, and are immune from bans.

If Netserk really was banned then the mechanics of whether another mod actually suspended his account or not, would not matter. There would be a note in the banned thread that netserk was banned and he would not make any posts in that time period. Simple.

Instead no note is placed, all the moderators explicitly state netserk is not banned, laugh about how they can't theoretically do it anyway, and he mucks around posting when he feels for kicks and giggles.

Thats not a voluntary ban now is it?
