Menchov

It may be that there was a biospassport case against Menchov and that it has just been decided, but as he withdrew from racing it is backdated, the JTL case is outstanding but when it does get resolved assuming he gets a ban then it will be backdated to when he stopped racing.

I would've thought that a Passport violation shows consistent doping, not an isolated incident therefore Menchov should lose all results from 2009!

That UCI did not make a public statement about this again shows they are more interested in burying bad news rather than transparency.

Of course he should lose other results, as for public, I would like to know when the case was resolved by the UCI

Well through twitter it leaked to the Dutch media. Seems NOS picked up the story. But they claim the results were also scrapped. They quote ammattipyöräily as the course for the 'leaked UCI list', lol.

So maybe Froome's tour of 2013 is already scrapped, but we will only learn about it about 10 years down the road. Nice.

Siutsou was an 8 on that index but Sky hired him. Thomas a 6 and Wiggins a 5, and anyone 5 or above was though to have significant irregularities. But of course the only mainstream story here is going to be about Menchov.

Well I guess this is the final confirmation that Menchov was the former GT winner with a passport case that the 'Secret Pro' was talking about. Confused as to why this wasn't announced earlier.

Again, Alex Oates made it out like it was not one of the old generation and that he was disapointed in the team.

Menchov, riding for Matxin -then Katusha, and being a gc rider since the early 2000's, does not fit either of those.

Because he got an actual ban.

And because it wasn't communicated

But let's make it another ****ing Sky thread when there's a whole ****ing front page of them in the clinic

ammatti's twitter picks up on the story a few hours ago, around the same time as Digger did, Digger's slightly earlier. I didn't know about either when I posted about it in the forum, and I don't know if they knew about my post either.

The list was posted up in an update on July 10th (which I didn't know at the time I posted) so it seems they were trying to bury it.

Has the UCI released a statement about this just being released now? I mean, surely a major news org has to have jumped on this by now? So sketchy it's not even funny...

That would be hearsay - here's what the Secret Pro himself said:

While I’m on the topic of Grand Tours, there’s talk going around the peloton that a former Grand Tour winner who’s about to be taken down for a biological passport irregularity. I can’t say who it is but when the news breaks you’ll know who I’m talking about. If it’s true, it’s a good thing that he’s been found out; it shows that the biological passport is doing its job.

Anti-doping is an independent body so no need for the UCI to be involved

Shame they haven't taken the 2009 Giro.

Giro 2009 GC Classification (SS from wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Giro_d%27Italia):
GX9UKfM.png

Original GC Podium:
1. Menchov
2. Di Luca
3. Pellizotti

If they removed Menchov, the entire original podium would be gone and Carlos Sastre would be the 2009 Giro winner. Sastre would then have two of three grand tours. Sastre also finished in second place in the Vuelta twice (2005 & 2007). Behind who? Menchov.

Leipheimer would be on the podium though...
Maybe they could clean that up along the way.

It's pretty funny that every time they strip someone, behind them is always another doper, what's the point

Pretty good payoff for all the years of doping to lose only 1 GT podium when finally caught.

I truly hope that Rasmussen or anybody else sticks the boot in further so that Menchov loses more results.

Although Sastre the multiple GT winner would be the biggest joke of the century.

Basso, Garzelli, Rogers are all dopers.

And Sastre? Clean? lol

I'm no Sastre fan, certainly no idea of whether he is clean or not, as I certainly did not state that he was.

The entire GC podium being removed is was amuses me. Have any other GC podiums been completely removed(yet)? Also the Menchov blocking Sastre from attaining 3 of 3 GTs interesting.

Yea. Guess that's just how it is though.

I wonder what role Menchov's former boss, and former UCI board member, Igor Makarov played in keeping this quite?

Yes but you get the feeling the reason the UCI kept it shhhhh was to avoid more negative publicity on Leinders?
