I guees Aru needs to buffer time over Dumoulin as far as he could. He can't gain more time if he attacked few hundred meter from the finish line. I'm a bit disappointed with Landa's performance. So the giro is his one time shining moment then? I thought in vuelta, he finally confirmed that he was one of the GT contenders.

I do not agree

or better, i also expected figthing for the podium but on Cortals d'Encamp he confirms is one of the best climber of circus. In a tremendous stage with hard mountains , in the end, he lost only 30-40s to Aru. i still believe in him for the next years. :)
i also think he could follow Quintana today, but...there's Aru in red :p

Strongest rider today. I wonder why he was so bad earlier this Vuelta.

Can't imagine him not riding the Giro before go slaving for Froome next year

It'll be like Froome and Wiggins in 2012. :D

I am not so sure he was bad earlier on in the Vuelta, the team might have told him to lose time.

For Rogers, Porte, Siutsou & Froome, read Kwait, Konig, Henao & Landa.

We said that before the Vuelta. Landais not the leader, he is out of the team, Aru is his new start, no more. He got the Giro after a very good shape in Trentino, now he wanst so strong, so more difficult to be the leader. and in Spain more hot, more wind, not good for him, and he losed important time one day of wind after some days of hight hot.

But he is in the climbs similar to the Giro, although La Vuelta has not climbs as Mortirolo or Finestre.

Cycling is not procycling manager and Landa is not a complete rider, the normal is he is not in GC... but I hope he improves, he is young, he has lot to improve and to learn, and he can shine in GC as well that in the hight mountain.

With the shape he had in Neila, in Bondone, in Estella, in Dauphiné, in San Sebastian, in this year Giro, or days as today or Andorra he can win a mountain Tour GC as il Giro.

As if he would do what the team asks? Guy is a loose canon. I just can't picture him at super regimented Sky. We shall see :).

Going by today he'll be a fantastic Super Dom for Froome at the tour.

What a monumental waste of talent. Let Geraint be Froome's super domestique. Hopefully Landa will get free reign to lead at the Giro. It would be quite interesting to see him battling Aru, Porte, Pozzivivo, and potentially Chaves.

There's no doubt at my mind Landa will lead Sky at the Giro next year, then maybe get to the ride the Tour in support in Froome. Let's face it that's a better deal than he would get than if he stayed at Astana and forced to work for Aru and Nibali.

His contract is like that for the first year, so there is no doubt, he will not ride Le Tour, he will ride Giro as lider.

Landa has shown tremendous climbing ability and potential. Very exciting to watch. My concern is with the TT, where he has been abysmal. Now, in the Giro TT maybe Astana had him hold back. Either way, if he is to be a consistent GT contender for the upcoming years, he must improve in this discipline. I believe Team Sky will help him with this...

As to his form improvement over this Vuelta, I think he is a type of rider that gets better as the race goes on. Great recovery, similar to AC. In the Giro, he was slightly behind on the first week Abetone stage, but improved drastically to be arguably the strongest rider in the race.

He can improve in the TT. Ditching the sandshoes and wearing real TT shoes, training in a windtunnel and being under the whip of Kerrison will improve his TT leaps and bounds. Will top 10 at the Giro TT.

Also, was he really weaker than anyone in the first week of the Giro? Let's not forget that he was working for Aru (and by extension, Porte and Contador) on every climb.

He reeled in the favorites after pacing the bunch and leaded them again to the finish line.

He certainly is gonna be Sky's Giro leader and then he may be Froome's super domestique at the Tour. Like Heras was for Armstrong. Maybe it's Tour + Vuelta then in 2017.

Anyway it has to be seen how long Landa will in fact stay with Sky.

Saiz is back. Alonso is out of contract at McLaren after next year. He has a personal contract with Look Cycles who would be keen to sponsor a major cycling team again after they lost Cofidis. Banco Santander is likely to end it's McLaren sponsorship and with Alonso gone it ain't got no reason to stay with Ferrari in the same volume. They already sponsor some cycling action in the UK and thanks to the latest cycling boom there a Pro team would give them some cheap PR there. Landa may become THE new, big Spanish climber. Although he's Basque he trains very often in the Picos de Europa if I recall correctly? So it's pretty much all from the same region, Northern Spain. It might come together in 2 or 3 years time.

It will be a big surprise even given Sky magic if Landa will improve his TT to the level of being competitive for a GT win. With the rumoured 70K of TT in next year's Giro I don't think he stands a chance. Dumoulin on the other hand...

Personally I think this must be the prediction of the season!

Landa appears to hate being a mountain goat but with Sky FULLY supporting him in the Giro, he must be one of the favourites surely? Then on to the tour with super dom ability and a massive box ticked he will most likely do whatever is asked of him..... With room to rude back into form and have a few extra rest days :)

2017 though?? With a GT under his belt????

Actually there ain't no need to become a superb time trialer for Landa. At least as long as his main-opponent is Aru. If he learns to limit the damage like Simoni he can win the Giro and the Vuelta overall.

He stands nearly no chance at the Tour, though.

If Landa has to be a dom for froome next year...

This tour was actually made for him. Not that he could have beat Froome, but maybe 2nd, definitely 3rd.

Landa & Aru appear to be not friends. Landa kept looking back to see where his leader was and Aru was at the back hiding not willing to talk to Landa except for thru the staff.
No way. Landa's performance yesterday was amazing for Aru. When Aru was struggling, Landa basically kept the pace so high that nobody could attack, but not quite high enough to drop Aru or put him in seriously difficulty. He can't keep dropping back to talk to Aru personally, or shout back through the peloton; much more sense to do it through the radio.
