Yeah, and huge effort to recover because he really had to break the race up on Cipressa. If they’d gone to Poggio as a peleton there would have been more than three left over the top.Yes! Yes! Yes! What a comeback from that crash.
I don't know how decent he looked, haven't checked yet but I think he was nowhere near the front of the group at the top of the Poggio.Good race, I think Flanders is over unfortunately, Van Der Poel was huffing and puffing ambling up the climb. He reminded me of Mick Foley post-1998 hell in a cell match, Van Aert actually looked decent, screwed the most by the crash.
Flanders was never a possibility if Pogacar is healthy. It's 3 weeks away, not a month to PR, but fair enough, there is time; I do think Pog is going to lay waste to him at De Ronde (and everyone else to be fair...), that one to me is a done deal.
And Mads just there for training, as I said NO! 😘
Van Aert also rode behind a team car most of the way back to the peloton.I don't know how decent he looked, haven't checked yet but I think he was nowhere near the front of the group at the top of the Poggio.
Pidcock chiefly has himself to blame today. He made a mess of that sprint.Guys like Mads P, WVA and Pidders must be cursing their luck. Any other era, they would be mutliple monument winners.
I don't think today was bad at all though; he had to fight for this one big time and that was a Rainbow Jersey performance for sure. I definitely get it when he's on his100th 80k solo, but today was a special win; taking MSR this way, it will be a big part of his lore now.Someone ended up gut punching Merckx cause the frustration got to big.
It's not something i would ever advocate for, but things can get ugly if the dominance continues and his (Pogacar) positive image starts to change.
But then that is probably true for any era - there are always guys constantly one step awayGuys like Mads P, WVA and Pidders must be cursing their luck. Any other era, they would be mutliple monument winners.
Should have tried attacking on the descent.Pidcock chiefly has himself to blame today. He made a mess of that sprint.
Ah I misread your original comment. I read Van der Pool not Van Poppel. No I entirely agree with you then.He has team leaders in the group ahead. Like he never in a million years survives the Cipressa after helping Pogacar.
Be nice if we could inject them all with 30 more IQ points for the day, and no one would throw ANYTHING at anyone. This is
Maybe this year the fans at Roubaix start throwing stuff at him instead of van der Poel.
I mean Van der Poel going over his limit to pull knowing he's gonna get dropped like a brick is insane as well.Ah I misread your original comment. I read Van der Pool not Van Poppel. No I entirely agree with you then.
nah, he did most things right except for a rookie mistake in the sprint. Stuff happens.Should have tried attacking on the descent.
I disagree, Pogacar knows this descent well enough to ride it blindfolded. Little chance of gaining more than a few meters. He did everything right, up to the point when he almost launched his sprint and hesitated.Should have tried attacking on the descent.
Not wise by VDP but seeing his form in the end it made no difference to his chances. It was over before Cipressa for him.I mean Van der Poel going over his limit to pull knowing he's gonna get dropped like a brick is insane as well.
Like Pogacar is winning so much jsut off the backs of being bunk buddies with Van der Poel it's maddening.
Demagogic behaviour, you know exactly what you were doing, in my opinion.I should never have started this thread. Look what happened.

But guys like Devolder, Nuyens, Hayman won Monuments this century. Even Zaugg won Lombardia. Nowadays With Pogi and VDP around, it's hardly the case. But then that is probably true for any era - there are always guys constantly one step away![]()
