If we're going for the long shots, then what of Burghardt? Though I'm not sure how he's been riding so far this season... Or maybe Larsson?

And the Unibet list made me wonder about Sébas Chavanel... Is he even starting the race?
I sincerely doubt he would be able to make it over all the climbs with the first riders though, let alone sprint for the win.....

What about Big George and the BMC squad? They have to start looking sharp for the invites to other races don't they? Cadel will not be in it so how about George? What do you all think?

I think we'd be more likely to see Ballan up there than Hincapie... but what do I know?

So no-one thinks Cav is trying the most audacious sporting tactical deception since Ali's rope-a-dope then? It would take something extreme to get people to write him off again after last year, and people do seem to be writing him off now...

If I had to pick one man, it would be Mark Cavendish.

Sorry, if that seemed a bit harsh, but it's like the 54th time I've had to say that. It was never on his schedule. Bit of rest after PN, and then Tour of Turkey.

I gathered from the bold text and exclamation marks you may have mentioned it before, haha no stress. I only skimmed the first two pages then posted :)

Before I give my guesses...a statement or two for the jury.

1. Last year was the first msr I saw.
2. I'm american and only recently learned that I could break away from the cult known as lance. Who knew other races occurred besides tour de France and tours of Missouri and Cali... I should alert the american media that other races happen!

My guess... Can't decide between the two mr t's... Tom or Thor.
If that fails I bet like roulette... Put my money on a Spanish guy.

William bonnet for the win..... I think I'll bet some money on him seeing as the unibet odds for him are good :S............ No idea if he is competing or not though...

I dont think Hushovd haussler or friere are fast enough to win in normal circumstances. Infact I dont think Hushovd is that good a sprinter :S...... although i seem to think bonnet can :S

I agree. I mean, he's only got three GT points jerseys and three other podium spots. Also-ran.

Yes, I know he's getting older. But I for one think Thor is awesome.

yes thats true :S but i dont like him too much(for sprinting)... he is quite consistent but he is nto fat enough.. cavendish was certainly a better sprinter than him last season.. I think he won the green jersey more because of a weakish field and his attack in the mountains and cavendish being relegated(even though he probably deserved it.. this didnt have much to do with thors sprinting)... I think there are quite a few guys better at sprinting than hushovd....

i quite like hushovd though but I think races like this are not for him.... He'll probably win it now :S.... Although I wouldn't mind if he did..

I think EBH is my pick for the race. Boonen may be is super form, but for some reason--and this is of course entirely my unsupported opinion--his heart never seems to be in this race. Remember how happy he was when his team mate Pozzato took it? He was never that happy--or happy at all--for either of Devolder's Ronde victories. That makes me think TB's entire season comes down to one week in April--he's Belgian to the marrow. But Bassoon Hogging has a fierce sprint--as we saw today--and is hugely motivated.

And there's always Ballan--BMC needs a win and Hincapie has a good record of guiding team mates to the win here.

After beating Cancellara in a TT and Petacchi in a sprint you can't deny the fact that he's one of the favourites, nevertheless I will stick with Gilbert.

I actually think Big George is looking really, really fit and may make one last good run at Paris-Roubaix and Flanders. Not MSR though, it's just not his kind of finish IMHO.

Him and every other cyclist in the world!

Thor can get over the hills with legs intact, he can handle himself in a bunch sprint, he has the power to sneak off in a very late break... he's never a bad pick in this race. I'd like to see him win too, it's hard not to like him.

Ballan, he's getting some good form and could stay away with a guy like gilbert.

Boonen and Bennati are in form and normally better than Davis

Yes, but Davis is usually a better stayer over the climbs than DB or Tomeke. He can still pack a very strong punch to the line once over the poggio. For DB and Tomeke I don't think that applies as much to them.
