either a typo, or a very strong statement there.

It must be a typo! I mean Freire is 3xWC as a sprinter who can get over hills and is as wily as a fox, yes he is older now, but I wouldn't discount him.

Boonen saying Bennatti is a favourite on CN main page?

I think the 'one week in Belgium man' is probably correct. I also think he doubts that he could regain form after a winning afterparty this close to P-R

Looking at the Liquigas line up, I do wonder what Franco and Roman are doing in there. Nibali is a good rider to jump away on the Cipressa and Poggio, but I can't see Pellizotti and Kreuziger doing the same. I would take more lead out men when Bennati is such a good chance.

Did they put the finish line a lot closer to the bottom of the slope this year? I'm tempted to go with Cancellara if that's the case. Bennati if I had to put money on it though.

How is BMC looking?

I think they would have a great line up for this w Ballan, Hincapie, Burghardt and Kroon if they had the fitness

I know Hincapie is doing well but not sure bout the rest of the guys?

I think a determining factor on how well EBH will do might be how many other Sky riders get over Poggio. Right now EBH really needs a couple of guys to lead him out to get him into a good position for the sprint. He's not as good as alot of the other sprinters at finding the right wheels and getting in a good position by himself yet so if he gets too alone that is a rather big uncertainty factor for him winning.

I'm sure he could still win it if he's alone but he needs to have more luck for that to happen.

I would put my money on Flecha or Henderson if he is starting. However Bennati looks strong as well.
Is there any sources that have confirmed Henderson?

They thought about it for a while but it will be same as last year

And there's always Ballan--BMC needs a win and Hincapie has a good record of guiding team mates to the win here.

Uh, I think he only guided ONE teammate to a win here. Still, I guess guiding A winner is better than guiding NO winners.

It will be interesting to see what BMC can do. Ballan and Hincapie have the chance to pull off the same sort of tag team tactics that Boonen has done with Pippo (at M-SR) and Devolder (at RVV and P-R). One attacks, and the other can sit back and watch what happens.

Dream scenario:

Ballan, Pazzato, Boonen and Cancellara attack on the Poggio, then settle it between each other at the end!

Dream scenario for me is: Eddy Merckx comes back from retirement, sits in on the climb, then escapes on the descent into San Remo, sweeps up a lone break away and nails him in the sprint!!

It had been mentioned that the finish this year would be closer to the Poggio however RCS were quick to confirm that the finish is the same as 08 & 09 on the seafront at Lungomare Italo Calvino in San Remo.

Which is good news for the sprinters!

I would say ballan or Burghardt have better form than Hincapie. Hincapie has been sick and i pretty sure that ballan and burghardt have had more racing than him. Not sure about Kroon.

Yes, but hincapie or ballan don't have the kick to wait for a sprint to beat guys like boonen. They have to attack and if they get caught, counter over the top.

I'm very surprised that Team Sky are riding for boasson hagen in MSR. even though a great talent he seems a bit young to win or do well there with his age and the length and toughness of the course.
What do you guys think?

Italian classics warning for the general public:

IT'S ON SATURDAY

Hopefully that'll avoid the usual trillion people posting "Waaaaaah I missed it. Thought it was on Sunday" that happens twice every year after San Remo and Lombardia :)

i think it could benefit lofkvist or flecha if they try to go clear on the poggio. i also dont think age is too much of a barrier - see last year

Cipo has only one favourite: Boonen. Boonen himself is betting on Bennati (Tombo rightly predicted Flecha for Omloop).

Possibly but you never know with EBH. They do have Hendo there as well so if EBH doesn't make it over the climbs they still have another option for a sprint in addition to some guys that can go solo in the poggio.

Well... Cav was pretty young last year when he won. And Edvald has a pretty significant edge in getting over hills compared to Cav, and perhaps more endurance.

I can see a scenario with a higher pace/more attacks over the Poggio where Edvald can stay closer and ride strong enough to close in to a small group of 20 or so and win the sprint. I can also see him competing in a larger bunch sprint (maybe not winning, but finishing high). About the only way I'd be suprised to see him in the mix to win is if he were part of a group of 3-4 attacking on the last climb and staying away... I don't think he's got that much climbing ability.

Honestly... the race seems to fit him pretty well right now.

I'm thinking of doing a full 360 and go with Cavendish. He's got what he wanted with the supporters, to underestimate him. Will other teams underestimate him?
Supporters might underestimate him, i don't think other riders will make te same mistake (like some did last year)
