Last year's race is nice. But if similar scenario happens again with more or less similar actors, it'll hurt the spectacle. Thing is it looks possible with these superboys.

I highly doubt a Mohoric-esque attack will succeed again so soon. I doubt Pog gets away solo on the Poggio but good chance it comes down to a small bunch where his odds are about 50/50.

I'm curious whether De Lie is already up to the task. Based on what he has shown this year so far I wouldn't be surprised to see him sprinting for the win despite his age.

I don't think he is. He didn't look that good at Paris-Nice

How far was Girmay last year?
11 seconds back. Which is a lot of time in Sanremo.

And I have Girmay a lot higher on a 6 minute asphalt climb.

The stage Girmay won in the Giro had like 30 guys left in it.

With a guy like Pogacar wanting to win Milan-Sanremo, I don't see more than a 7-10 guys coming over Poggio.
Just out of curiosity, how do we rate Pog's sprint against WVA after a long... but possibly not hard race?

That's like a fresh 1 minute W/kg effort. Poggio is 6 minutes. Cipressa is 10.

But using Pedersen as a reference isn't that stupid, considering he made it over Poggio in a decent position last year, where Pogačar was also trying to win.

I still think the Poggio and aggressive pace of the end of the race is high enough to keep Pog’s sprint at a high level in a reduced finish. But not as high as Wout.

And considering how De Lie managed to survive a climb the next day that Pedersen didn't in a race where Pedersen was in good enough shape to win the ITT.

Don't you have to look at his latest performance instead of a performance of a month ago? He wasn't that great at Paris-Nice

I don't think the route did him any favours to express a high level? Three easy sprint days and three very mountainous days.

Yeah, from what we've saw in that race and in Omloop, I definitely don't see his chances being much worse than Pedersen. We know he sometimes struggles with positioning in bunch sprints, so his team will obviously have to make sure he doesn't end up on the back foot at the bottom of Poggio.

GCN promo poster. They didn't even put Pog on it.

Epic battle with MvdP for the last wheel?
