In recent years its seems the best descenders win MSR ...if you get a gap at all and can descend then you have it

Actually pretty traditional. How Merckx orchestrated many of his wins. It’s only 1991-2010 that is an aberration. Of course people have won in different ways, but being a superb descender has historically been a bit of a pre-requisite.

It’s kind of why I knew they would not catch MVDP. Pog would never risk his season on a crazy descent. And so it took a bit before WVA could get by ganna and him to really start the chase. And so, bye bye.

Mathieu knows how to gamble. WVA otoh is so dutiful and reacts (as expected) whenever a fellow favorite moves. MVDP knows this and exploited it beautifully. I think Wout should put some more risk into his game. Especially when MVDP is still around.
This I agree with. Wout doesn't risk when he needs to, and closes gaps when he shouldn't. Mathieu is by far the more daring rider, and deserves his wins.

Felt like wellens had a bigger effect in a way than Pog. Sure, pog made the final separation but his attack seemed less explosive than usual. And he just kept going hoping to drop everyone off his wheel.

Probably good for cycling as a whole that he did not easily pulverize the field.

Cort is always talked up in these races - He's like S.Yates once a one day race is over 200kms then he struggles.

Big problem for Pogacar was his attack started at high speed and the other guys are just more naturally explosive than him.

He can't position himself. Going into the Poggio he was among the 10 rear-most riders in the bunch.

MVDP didn't even go that hard on the descent. He didn't need to. It wasn't like last year where the race was won purely on the descent.

All the pressure on VdP for Ronde and P-R. Everyone down on Wout's chances. See you all in a couple of weeks.

I dont think the pressure is on him... he has just won MSR.

The pressure will be on Van Aert and Jumbo to try to stop MVDP from winning both.

MVDPs psychological advantage is huge and he seems to have Pogs number as well, when it comes to these races.

Nerds really need to let go of Van eart vs MVDP its beyond stupid....andsimply has no merit and its like you havent watched cycling at all ...

MVPD has kicked his ass entire life from youth and he has continued to doing so every time it matters in road too like at this point its beyond cringe and nerd worthy to even read the comparison he has kicked van aert ass entire career and still doing it.

Van aert a stunning rider a generational talent but MVDP is and has always been a totally different beast!!

Nothing new hes done it their entire career...The top lvl of MVDP is simply unmatched and theres noone even close the the power hes able to put out when hes in top form its honestly scary how strong he is when hes on, just amazing!
FFS, ChatGPT and DeepL are more accurate than you.

Oh no, read the comments. Wout has no chance against the majesty of VdP. Just read the comments.

I think I get what you mean. Tho I am not sure explosive is the right term. Maybe MVDP. But Ganna and WVA are simply huge engines that can push huge power for longer than Pog. So if it was going fast for a while, Pog’s “explosion” was in a sense muted and WVA was able to pull it back.

And lets face it, the one with the history of riding to make sure the other doesn't win, is VdP.

Van aert *** riders forcing a debate which more evidence u want hes gotten beaten by MVDP from early days when they was juniors to this days time to start watching cycling or understand what ur watching...just makes van aert look worse comparing him to MVDP who is clearly unmatched,
Van aert himself tho is extremely talented and simply a class act so chappou.

As for MVDP hes simply unmatched when hes on top form and always has been, noone been close people remember what he did to Ala in strade to others at flandern even at subpar lvl etc. At top lvl he wins in a fashion and lvl rest can dream of

simply unmatched top lvl.
