Nerds really need to let go of Van eart vs MVDP its beyond stupid....andsimply has no merit and its like you havent watched cycling at all ...

MVPD has kicked his ass entire life from youth and he has continued to doing so every time it matters in road too like at this point its beyond cringe and nerd worthy to even read the comparison he has kicked van aert ass entire career and still doing it.

Van aert a stunning rider a generational talent but MVDP is and has always been a totally different beast!!

Nothing new hes done it their entire career...The top lvl of MVDP is simply unmatched and theres noone even close the the power hes able to put out when hes in top form its honestly scary how strong he is when hes on, just amazing!
Word vomit.

Reading the comments it blows my mind how many have doubts about WVA's shape. The guy podiumed in one of the most compelling Sanremo finals i can recall.
Exactly. Plus he was bad positioned before the Poggio plus he was just lacking MvdP and Pog's explosiveness (he never was and never will be as explosive as them, even with his best shape).
You can't also draw far-reachnig conclusions about cobbled classics from San Remo.

Action of the day (besides MVDP's attack): Trentin going out of the line on the Poggio and casually causing the break of the 8 favorites.

At first I thought that he couldn't have just done that on his own...likely the top 4 would have gotten away anyway, everyone else was probably on their limit and Trentin just gave them that little nudge, but I agree, it was a really clever move.

I just finished watching on delay...wow, what a final. The four biggest wattmonsters in the peloton slugging it out. MvdP was simply better when it mattered. I knew Pog wasn't going to win when he couldn't create separation from VdP on his attack but I thought they might go to the finish in a small group.

I was pretty impressed with Ganna. One of these days he's going to win something big that isn't an ITT.

I want to make clear, I am happy for VdP, when he wins, as I like the way he races (most of the time). I just don't get the derision there is here, by some, for Wout. Wout isn't a d!ck about winning or losing. He is gracious, and like in last year's tour, does some really respectful things . Tactically, he lacks some thinking, at times. Sometimes, he doesn't dare to win when he should. Ultimately, he is a beast of a cyclist, who deserves to win (and likely will) more classics.

actually this years was the best san remo ever as it disployed the 4 best watt riders going head to head up poggio and MVDP simply smoked em all on the road which obviously wasnt a big suprise given what hes done and what lvl hes showcased before. With Pog on a nice second Ganna third and Van aert struggling more over top top of them all! Greatest Milan sanremo in decades.

The Van Aert v. MVdP debate is tiresome. Why can't some of you enjoy the fact that we as cycling fans are fortunate enough to enjoy their epic battles in cross and on the road. Van Aert can do some things than MVdP cannot, like winning on the Ventoux. The reverse is also true, MVdP has an extraordinarily explosive attack. I think MVdP seems a bit superior tactically as well - we saw that at Cross worlds as well.

These battles are phenomenal. Wish Pidcock had been here and hope for his speedy recovery.

...when Pidcock is there to play the spoiler to their 2 man game, it makes me happy. He rides with complete abandon. It would have been nice to have him there today. I worry that, because it was a hand injury, cobbles will be a bridge too far, this year.

Cort is always talked up in these races - He's like S.Yates once a one day race is over 200kms then he struggles.
14th was not too far from where most had him beforehand.
main problem was that he entered the Poggio basically in last position of the peloton.

Perfectly worded.

Could Remco have beaten today's MVDP? I think only someone like Pidcock in top form, like in the Strade, could've followed and then keep with him on the descent.
I do like this new Ganna though, in the past he's been strickly a top TT guy, but now he can climb, he can sprint, he can really make a great classics rider.

Pog's comment's after the race

Talk abut a blind fanboy, tired of your repetitive word vomit. GoodBye!

Diegem this year was such an epic race, and one of the best races I have ever watched, and all because of Pidcock.

Actually pretty traditional. How Merckx orchestrated many of his wins. It’s only 1991-2010 that is an aberration. Of course people have won in different ways, but being a superb descender has historically been a bit of a pre-requisite.

It’s kind of why I knew they would not catch MVDP. Pog would never risk his season on a crazy descent. And so it took a bit before WVA could get by ganna and him to really start the chase. And so, bye bye.

I assume you mean from about 97-98 when it became primarily a sprinters race. Who could possibly forget Kelly's descent in 92 to catch and beat Argentin.

Actually it looked like he didn't stretch the gap on the descent. It wasn't a descent à la Mohoric last year. He got those few seconds just before the end of the ascend then it remained more or less constant until the end of the desecnd and it finally grew on the flat.

He said he didn't took any risks in the descent, with the other classics in mind. Did the descent 3 times in recon.
