Looking at the recordings, I think Mohorič broke his 2022 record by ~2 seconds for the Poggio descent.

EDIT: After going over it a few times, he was probably 4-5 seconds quicker this year.

Random takeaway. I’m not sure pedersen will ever be able to win these very long hard races. He looks mortal compared to others at the run in

Random takeaway 1: This was very long, but not a hard race.
Random takeaway 2: Pedersen excells in long hard races (see Worlds 2019)

He had cement quads at the end of the last worlds and this race too. Outsprinted by non sprinters both times

In Glasgow he was only outsprinted because he led out from like 250m to go and gave Pog the suckwheel until 50m to go. It's so dumb to sprint from 250m after a super hard race.

I think there is a habit of listing pedersen as a favorite. And it’s true he is there at the end. But can he be a favorite if he can’t get over the line first?

He went way too early at the worlds, and Pogacar is no fluke in the sprint after 270km.
As for yesterday, I think Poggio drains too much from him.
We shall see, I think that sprint after a hard race is one of his main weapons, but it is truth that he lost twice to Pogacar in the last two.
Then again, Van Der Poel lost to Asgreen...

And Pogačar finished 4th in a two man sprint in De Ronde.

That's why I was devastated when fate struck him by a mechanical shortly after :(

After this, it would be nice if we had a rainy edition next year.
Oh noo! Pls save the beautiful bright views for the race to the spring sun.
However, I'm all game for a good, strong headwind which can make a difference up the Poggio.
Or perhaps a hurricane-like crosswind between Cipressa and Poggio :)

Leave rain and puddles for De Ronde, plenty of it.
Or even better hail, sleet, fierce winds, +1°C and all white knuckles, old style ;)

Congratulations to Jasper Philipsen for winning.

Was a nice race to watch and i like the fact two Slovenians finished in top 10. As for Pogi and his chances. Until the field weakens i feel that a brute force attempt wont' work here. So maybe he needs to be a bit more playful in future editions and explore other options. Eventually i feel that he will win it.

Pidcock wouldn't have been a big problem in one-on-one sprint. Those guys who caught Pog later would. Maybe if Pidcock led the descent they would finish ahead of the chasing pack (but then Pidcock could've tried distancing Pog on the descent).
Are we talking about the same Pidcock who beat* WVA to the (well, a) line at Amstel Gold?

No one predicted Pog was going to have a better kick than Mads Pedersen yesterday but in normal circumstances I would pick Pidcock over Pog in a fair sprint. And MSR sprints are rarely fair: ask Sagan or Cancellara.
