Milano - Sanremo 2025, one day monument, March 22

I’ll pick Pidcock. Only because he’s been going well since he switched teams and the Poggio descent so soon before the finish really suits his skills.

The X factor is Pogacar. I think his best (albeit slim) chance is to launch on the Cipressa and hope nobody has his wheel before the Poggio. He needs the right wind conditions. If there is any headwind between Cipressa and Poggio it won’t be possible. But he’s Pogacar so he can’t be ruled out.

All your fantastic puns aside, fwiw Van der Poel would count as a surname starting with a P in Dutch.

The big question is whether one of Van der Poel and Pogacar can go solo, if not then I expect another Mohoric/Stuyven calibre rider winning with a late attack. If the latter gets added to the startlist, then Ganna and Tarling could be the perfect one-two punch for those final kilometres.

Tis different in Belgium but they simply just do it wrongly. Then there's WvA, who does it correctly because his name is Dutch. Always found that little trivia funny.

I actually came back to ask this. I assumed that was the case, but wasn't really sure. Didn't realise that they did it differently in Belgium, too

Nibali's milan sanremo win is his greatest win and 2018 was obviously the greatest edition of milan sanremo (although 2019 was good also).
Yes. But as was pointed out to me, Nibali’s amazing feat was only possible because they didn’t react until it was too late. Pog won’t have that luxury. But then he is Pog so who knows, his rivals, including MVDP will be nervous.

Still too early to say, but meteoblue has the bad weather Friday and nice on Saturday.

Wind from NE means mostly tailwind or cross-tail right?

So pumped. While I'm sure its bad for the riders, I'm not sure if rain will also be bad or good for the racing. That descent is already sketchy - and 300km of riding around in the rain for 20min of action at the end would be horrible. Not even sure it would suit Pog. Maybe pederson

Also - we have got to stop referring to these in threads as "one day monuments"

In the descent? He closed the gap on Pogacar/MVDP like that last year. So he might be able to drop them in the descent

Drop Pogacar on the descent? Maybe. Drop vdP? Ain't happening.

Whatever descending skills Pidcock has that inspired your comment, you gotta recognize that vdP's are on the same level.

Pidcock is a helluva rider, but I just can't imagine a scenario where he wins. But that's the beauty of this race, eh?

That said, I'd love to see Pedersen actually pull it off.

Pogacar and vdP would really have to be focused on marking each other out for him to sneak off, but crazier things have happened.

I got spoiled by having two races to watch every day last week, so this week will seem like a long wait for MSR.
