If MVP rides again for Philipsen, he should quit from cycling
Better at descending? As for the rest he does look good this year, but not good enough to drop Pogacar (and probably not MVDP) going up the Poggio. So he won't have a gap going over the top, and can't create a gap (on MVDP anyways) on the descent. So that leaves trying to attack on the flat and hope others hesistate, just as Stuven did above.I would say, Pidcock is much better this year.
Stop re-writing history, he didn’t ride for Philipsen until after the descent, and guess what, Philipsen was already in their group then because Pogacar descended like ***.If MVP rides again for Philipsen, he should quit from cycling
Exactly. He is a great rider that should not ride for others. If MVP rides again for Philipsen, he should quit from cycling
Philipsen even thanked him for not riding away with Pog, otherwise it would have been a 1-2 battle.Stop re-writing history, he didn’t ride for Philipsen until after the descent, and guess what, Philipsen was already in their group then because Pogacar descended like ***.
Pogacar fans when the team leader decides to help his teammate achieve a goal in a race he's already won, rather than sprint for a sixth stage win in some random one week stage race:If MVP rides again for Philipsen, he should quit from cycling
I also think the rivals of my favorite rider should have tactics that favor my favorite rider.Exactly. He is a great rider that should not ride for others.

Ride away where? In the descent? Because after the descent Philipsen was in the same groupPhilipsen even thanked him for not riding away with Pog, otherwise it would have been a 1-2 battle.
I see you‘re new to cycling, it‘s basically a mix of individual and team sports. The riders do all get an individual result, but they ride for different teams enabling unique tactics. If MVP rides again for Philipsen, he should quit from cycling
Now you've hit on a sensible approach!I also think the rivals of my favorite rider should have tactics that favor my favorite rider.
You might want to go watch it again as mvp was covering attacks while philipsen sat in with guys he could outsprintRide away where? In the descent? Because after the descent Philipsen was in the same group
Nice to have a Philipsen-fan with us! Great for him if they ride for him again.I also think the rivals of my favorite rider should have tactics that favor my favorite rider.
My least favorite of the five monuments, because the final only lasts fifteen minutes, and because the strongest rider usually doesn't win.
- In 1999 Pantani dropped Bartoli and everyone else on the Cipressa, but he was reeled in by Telekom on the flat. After the Poggio there weren't enough helpers left to control Tchmil.
- Cancellara won it once, but after that there were four more podium places behind some second-rate sprinter.
- Sagan was born to win this race, but ended up with two second and five fourth places. Stress, high expectations and being targeted kept him from winning.
- It's the monument that Gilbert couldn't win. Also guys like Argentin, Bartoli, Vanderaerden, Museeuw and Boonen have never won it.
- Pogacar will probably never win it, because he's always hyped as the favorite, everyone targets him, and the Poggio just isn't steep enough.
So it has a big lottery factor. Tactics, descending skills and luck play a big role. It has the shortest and most nervous final, with the least predictable outcome. That's also what makes it exciting.
I rewatched it a couple of days ago, but to be 100% sure, I rewatched it again. My opinion was that MVDP followed Pogi's attack, and then the descent started in which Pogacar took the lead. Eventually everyone comes back right before the descent is over, and Mohoric attacks. Since Philipsen is already back then, and there are only flat sections left, MVDP decided to ride for one of the best sprinters in the peloton which is also his teammate. I don't see in which part MVDP should've ridden for himself. You might want to go watch it again as mvp was covering attacks while philipsen sat in with guys he could outsprint
He was sand bagging the descent, I feel if he wanted to go hard he could have kept the group from rejoining and him and Tadej would be hard to bring back on the flat. But then there would be no time to mess about for the finish so I guess he and the team decided to ride for Jasper - which honestly very very very nearly blew up in their faces given Matthews was awfully close and if he had ridden like his mate Jasper usually does Matthews could have just shut the door and taken the win.I rewatched it a couple of days ago, but to be 100% sure, I rewatched it again. Imagine having watched the past few years of this sport and your takeaway being that the strongest rider doesn't win often enough...My least favorite of the five monuments, because the final only lasts fifteen minutes, and because the strongest rider usually doesn't win.
Seems unlikely the peloton is just going to let half of the uae team up the road...I mantain that Pog's best shot at a win here is going solo from Cipressa. As Trentin told me last year: "if he does a sub 9 minute time on Cipressa he's gonna be alone at the top".
The trickiest part is having at least 3 teammates in front of him at the bottom. 4 would be optimal but extremely difficult.
None of the UAE rider should hit the front until the Capi are over. They tried taking control of the race from the Capi last year and failed.
