I think there are potentially "sprinters" that could still win. This is an early season race where weather can be a bit of a leveller and the hilly classics specialists are still going to be peaking a few weeks later. Freire, Petacchi and Zabel would have been contenders on this course.

Gilbert and Hushovd has allready been on reckoning the new climb.

Today I did the recon of the new climb of Milano Sanremo! If this was a official news

Wonder if the likes of Nibali will have enough of a springboard to get way..

Good, with it, it's just another 'Ardennes Classic'.

It's much better if the race is 50/50 between spritners and puncheurs.

I was kinda looking forward to seeing what the racing would be like with the extra climb. If it would give us more action, if a climber/attacker could use the extra climb to break everything up, etc. But I suppose this is probably for the best as it will keep a balance between attackers and sprinters.

I'll still be cheering for the attackers to deliver though.

So, Gilbert with his whole pre-season focusing on this race... for nothing? His chance of winning has plummeted.
He was quite close in the past already.

But with Boonen's current form, he might be the guy to watch now.
