I don't know, on his own everyone will have a hard time. In a group of some capable descenders who are likely to attack like Alaphilippe or Sagan I would trust him to follow them. Of course there are many factors that will decide if a Poggio attack works, not only the ability of a single rider.DFA123 said:Do you think he is a good enough descender to make a Poggio attack work?Sestriere said:If he wants to win (or podium) he has to attack or follow an attack on the Poggio, which he is capable of. He looked very well in PN. You guys think he'll want to wait for a sprint or that he'll make a move?
Tom said he's less and less a rider for San Remo. He said when he was younger he had 'some' explosivity, but the more he has focussed on GT's the less explosive he has gotten. So he says this is really not the race for him anymore. (nor was it ever to be honest)Velolover2 said:Big Tom is in the race. I'd like to see him try something on Cipressa but I think he is going to work for Matthews.
Has there ever been a winning move on Cipressa before?

I am also a bit doubtful on his shape - certainly not been as good as in August/september last season so far. I am also skeptical about whether a rider like Mohoric has the punch to go on Poggio? In my mind he would have to imitate Vincenzo's attack from 18. Does not Seem like a 5 star favourite along the likes of Ewan and Gaviria to me.

Not saying he should be a 5 star favorite, but as far as I remember he was great last year here, protecting Nibali on both Cipressa and Poggio.Cance > TheRest said:According to cyclingstage.com Mohoric is a 5 star favourite for MSR. No way mohoric is even a 4 or 3 stars favorite but aside from that I do think this race suits him. The Giro Stage he won Last year was almost 240 k long so the distance doesn't seem to bother him too much, he is a fantastic descender is good on hilly terrain and seems to have a good racing instinct. Good combination for msr if you ask meCance > TheRest said:According to cyclingstage.com Mohoric is a 5 star favourite for MSR. I didn't realise just how tiny Valverde is, until I saw him next to an ice cream cone!![]()
Matthews did a total number of 150k in training since he crashed out of Paris Nice (two weeks ago), so I guess having some freedom in the team will not be an issue for DumoulinDekker_Tifosi said:Tom said he's less and less a rider for San Remo. That being said, if Matthews is not feeling well yet he might still try something.
