Did it ever have the downhill finish into the city?

Before the break from 2007-2012 it was. Always long flat part and then Superga + downhill. Superga GPM was always at 15-10k from the finish. It was already in march from 2005-2007.

But this always used to be a big classic in october. Fall had great races thirty years ago. Starting with Giro del Lazio in mid september, followed by the almost 300k Paris-Bruxelles and the GP des Nations. The latter was the inofficial world championships of time trialing. Back then they did 90k, which was around 2hrs.

In Italy most of the classics are still the same with Emilia, Piemonte and M-T always being the days before Lombardia, sometimes one of those the week after. Oh and Paris-Tours was before Lombardia, a WC race and lasted seven hours as well.

As much I like to see it I wonder if this makes any sense for the favourites apart from the training aspect - they all would have been in front in the last 20k anyway, it's not like they eliminated any of the serious contenders. If DQS have done this they of course have more guys in front than the others... but I don't know if that matters much on this kind of finish.

If they are supposed to help Al and Al they cannot be twenty meters ahead of the breakaway lol
