I liked the Napoli interview afterwards... I don't remember seeing a player tear-up like that but not have his voice crack. I have one suggestion to ML managers... with all the crowd noise don't rely on a phone call to the bullpen to get the right name for the pitcher the manager wants to sub in... text it or something.

I like the Cards in game 6. They have Carpenter on the mound, and they can't play as bad, or at least LaRussa can't manage as bad, as they did in game 5.
I like the fact that baseball is old fashioned like that without the high tech stuff. I do think umpires could use instant replay at their discretion, but I don't want managers challenges like in football. I mean, the umpires are already using it, when there's a very close, crucial call, they will huddle up, and one of them will glance at the jumbotron showing the replay and see if that helps. Let's just make it official.
Would like to see them find a way to make the game a bit quicker. If you go back from about 1920-1980, games were 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Now they are often three hours, or longer. LaRussa seems to be the master at stalling and stretching games out. Not sure what the solution is, but three and a half hours for a baseball game is getting too long.

Rouetheday said:I've always rooted against the Rangers because of their link to Dubya, but I'm also enjoying Nolan Ryan getting his dreams trampled on (at least for the time being). I recall a news item back in the early '80's that reported that Ryan was allowing the Reagan administration to use a runway on his farm in Arkansas for arms shipments to the Nicaraguan Contras. I'm curious, red, if you could shed some more light on this for us.
i am just about to watch the replay (i'm thanking my lucky stars that he's out of town this weekend because he hates baseball)... i even made myself a greek salad as my eating greek olives (long story) seems to have brought the Cards luck in 1982.on3m@n@rmy said:Drama wise, that was the best world series game e v e r. And it doesn't matter to me who wins the series. Not the most perfect game ever (without mistakes). But all the drama with the Cards' multiple comebacks on the last out... the last strike. And Texas losing wasn't for lack of effort. That is amazing stuff that will be remembered forever no matter who wins the series.

no one who was there will forget that game, oh my!!! and the end? shredding the shirt?Amsterhammer said:OMG indeed. That was utterly ****ing unbelievable. Imagine all the highs and lows that the crowd went through. It's really looking like the Cards are meant to win this.

2001 was fun as i was born and bred to hate the Yankees (L.A.).Alpe d'Huez said:Best WS in my lifetime though were 2001 when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th of game 7, or 1975 with the Reds and Redsox. 1986 was the most emotional. Let's hope this game comes close to those years.
you're so sweet!Amsterhammer said:My ESPN is certainly showing game 7, starting at 1:30 and I will certainly be watching. I can't imagine that the Belgians wouldn't show it!?
Otherwise, you're welcome in Amsterdam.![]()

actually, i just looked it up online and, indeed, it will be live here too (and not BYU vs TCU as the TV guide says) -- yes!
had we planned beforehand, it would have been a hoot to have someone to watch this with -- maybe next year?
but please please comments please! it may be rough staying up... and, yes, i feel supremely guilty that i didn't try to find some Bud (yuck!)... i hope my silly greek olives and belgium beer will do.
ooh ooh ohh! i have fixings to make nachos! does that count? (trying to think of an approximation of ball park food) but i have no idea where my Cardinals cap is... have to go change into something red.
(again, very grateful BF is out of town!)
Ajax will do -- as long as it's red!Amsterhammer said:I've got beer and popcorn. The only red things I have are Ajax, will that do?I'll be sure to pop in here from time to time, but my tv is in another room.
One of my music world friends lives in St. Louis, and then there was Judy Garland....those are my connections.![]()

and you're allowed not to post... i may doze a bit on the couch (i'm thinking of bringing my alarm clock down and set it just in case)
i can think of nothing more wonderful than the reasons you chose to be a fan (hell, Judy Garland alone!)...
GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!
(please note: eleven letters, eleven exclamation points, destiny, i tell you)
i was excusing you so didn't have to miss any of the gameAmsterhammer said:Hang on - what do you mean I can't post?I thought we were both going to (and maybe others too)?
